Chapter 12 The Attack

Vera's P.O.V

As we were walking we kept looking at everyone's yards hoping to see a Vaporeon then to my surprise we saw Ripple padding our way. I paused feeling confused. "Dad? what are you doing here?" Nolan asked as he reached us. He gave us a hard stare. "I could ask you the same thing, does Vera live around here?" I shook my head and answered. "No, we were just on our way to find his mom. You wouldn't happen to know where she is, would you?" I asked very politely. By looking at him I got an odd feeling he didn't seem happy. "Look Nolan, I understand that you miss her. But now isn't a good time she is sick she's not well right now." I noticed he had a piece of paper under his paw. "What's that?" I asked. The question seemed to make him nervous. "Oh, it's a prescription for her medicine." Nolen looked concerned. "Is she going to be ok?" Ripple smiled and nudged him lightly. "Hey, don't worry about her. It's just a minor illness she'll pull through." But I could tell that something seemed to be bothering Nolen as Ripple began walking away. I glanced at him. "Is everything ok?" He nodded. "Yeah, I just find it odd that my dad came here to see her. When they broke up it sounded like he didn't want to see her again plus he hates coming here." I shrugged. "Well, maybe that's a good thing, it means he does still care about her." He nodded I suppose you're right." As we were walking suddenly two Arcanines came stalking towords us. "There he is! Get him!" Nolen looked shocked as they ran to him and cuffed him in shackles. "I thought we warmed you to stay outta town!" He growled. I got in front of him. "He didn't mean to break into the store! It was an accident can't you guys give him another chance?" They both gazed at me in shock. "You! Your that store clerk! What are you doing with him?" I frowned. "It was all just a big misunderstanding. He didn't mean any harm." They both exchange looks with each other. "Well don't just stand there! Get that wild Mon out! His kind doesn't belong here!" Solstice hissed from behind them. I felt my stomach drop as he padded towords me. "It's ok Vera, They're going to escort him out and then I can walk you home." I felt very uncomfortable. "Please give him another chance!" I begged. And to my surprise they released him. The Arcanines both growled at him. "OK, we're willing to give you one last chance. But if you break any rules or steal anything else we'll have you banned for good next time! "Nolen looked happy. "You mean I'm not banned anymore?" They glanced at me and I nodded. "Just watch yourself wild Mon!" they said as they walked away. Solstice looked shocked. "This is outrageous!" He ran towords them. "You can't let him stay! He's wild!" but they ignored the Espeon. Solstice narrowed his eyes at Nolen. "This isn't over!" He said before walking away. I moved closer to Nolen without realizing it. I noticed he blushed a little. "Vera, if you ever need me for anything I promise you can count on me." He said. I paused for a moment staring into his blue eyes. I did like him but I had to admit to myself I was not sure if I was ready for a relationship. 'Plus I don't know how I feel about his father, there's something off about him...
I felt him move his paw over mine. "Do you wanna take a walk with me?" I smiled. "My brother is at the gym right now, let's head back to my place." I could see he was a bit hesitant for a moment. "OK fine I'll come to your cute townie house but only on one condition." I paused. "What?"
"Tomorrow I want to show you the forest." I felt my heart race. The thought of the forest always scared me. It always takes me back to that terrible stormy night. The night my parents went away. "N...Nolen, I can't..." I said.
"I can see you're scared, can you tell me why?"
"Remember what I said to your father earlier? About how I lost my parents?" Understanding now flashed in his eyes. "I see, so you're scared of wild Mons? Those Mightyena don't live around here. And besides, I'll be with you every step of the way." I frowned. "I don't know..."
"OK, we'll go to your house and I'll let you sleep on that decision. But honestly, I think going there might help you out of your trauma." I frowned. "The Forest isn't a safe place Nolen," I say as we continue walking to my house. He giggled. "Vera I know it's safe because I grew up there all alone as an Eevee. I ran away from my brothers."
I gave him a sidelong look. "Why?" He showed me the rip in his Finn. "They used to bully me, Conan was the one who did this." I felt surprised as I gazed at him. "Really? That seems kind of hard to believe." He nodded. "Well, things have changed. They are a lot better to me now." He paused seeming troubled for a bit. "I think it may have had something to do with my father... he was only ever good to me but I hadn't known back then."
"Hey, Nolen that isn't your fault," I say. "I like Conan and Harvey and yes I agree that Ripple should love you all equally. But that does not make what they did to you ok. They never should have taken their anger out on you." He paused for a moment as if in deep thought. "I suppose your right, but I think they're sorry for it now."
I smiled. "Well, that's good then. I hope your relationship with them stays good." We reached my house finally and I was relieved to not see Solstice. 'Ah good I've seen enough of that Espeon for one day. I felt a little tense at the thought of him. It was obvious to see that without a doubt he was jealous of Nolen. It bothered me I just wish I could live my life privately without a stalker. 'I suppose Kaylee will help me tomorrow. I just hope it works out. I pulled out my key and unlocked the door. Once we got in I closed it. Nolen sniffed around curiously then padded over to the stairs. "So you live up here then?" I nodded. "Yeah, last time I checked you weren't very good with the stairs. We'll just sit on the couch. But you'll have to leave before Shade gets home." I tell him and watch as he runs over to it and jumps on it. "Wow... this thing is very cozy." He purred laying down on it. I pad over to him with a smirk on my face. "So being a townie isn't so bad after all is it?" He lifted his head. "I didn't say that! I just said it's cozy... That's all." I got on and sat next to him then unexpectedly he wrapped his arms around me. "Hehe! Gotcha!" He teased. "Nolen! Let g..." I started to giggle then realized he was tickling me. "AHHH!! Stop!!"
"Hehaha! Let go!" He shook his head. "Not unless you agree to come to the forest with me!"
"Noo! Hehahahaha!" I splahed him with water gun and he finly let go. He smriked at me. "Hmm nice try you know I'm water absorb." He teased. "I know you're a Vaporeon." He got up. "We're not all water absorb some of us have hydration instead. But if you ask me I'd rather be water-absorbed." I sat Quietly I wasn't even sure which ability I had since I never battled. I laid back down on the couch and Nolen let out a yawn and glanced outside. "This may sound a bit silly but I have to be home before sunset." I nodded. "That seems like a reasonable time." He glanced around my house. "So, this is it? You live here with your brother and come and go whenever you please?" I frowned. "Don't say it like it's a good thing. Life hasn't been easy for me and my brother at least you have a family." He paused. "Yeah, I suppose but my family is kind of broken right now..." He replied. "My parents are broken up and I don't even know where my mother lives, my dad wants to control me and wants nothing to do with Conan or Harvey. I just wish there was something I could do. I wish my dad would spend time with them and give me more space."
I frowned. "Yeah, it sounds like Ripple really needs to work on himself. I'm sorry to hear that Nolen." He hugged me. "That's alright Vera it's like you said. At least I have them.... It must have been hard getting by without your parents." I nodded and squeezed him a little tighter. He pulled away. "Well, now that I'm no longer banned perhaps I'll come see you tomorrow?" I nodded. "I'd like that." He smiled as he met my gaze. "We're going for a walk in the forest."
"Mmm, maybe.." I say. He smiled as he headed for the door. "Goodnight Vera." I watched as he pulled it open and I felt my stomach drop. Shade was standing right there staring at him in disbelief. "YOU!" I watched my brother as he pinned Nolen up against the wall. "Quick Vera! Get upstairs! I'll handle him!"
"SHADE NO!!" I cried. "Let him go! He's my friend!" My brother turned and looked at me in shock. "WHAT?" He turns his red glare back on Nolen then lets out a growl as he lets go and backs away from him as Nolen hits the floor. He was gasping for air. "Wow... that's quite a grip you got there." He comments. Shade just grunted and then turned to face me. "Seriously?! Him? Of all friends to hang out with it's the guy who broke into your store?" He towered over Nolen. "You're lucky my sister likes you! Or I'd be breaking every bone in your body! The nerve of you to attack my sister! No one hurts my sister and gets away with it!" Nolen looked stunned. "I never did hurt her! I'd never hurt Vera I promise." Shade just continues to glare at him. "Right... well I'm watching you! It's bad enough I have to worry about the creep next door!" Nolen brushed himself off. "Shade, it was an accident he never meant any harm when he broke in. He was just a confused wild Mon." Shade grunted. "But he did take something!" Nolen frowned. "Ok, I admit It! I wanted to get my paws on the valuable items! But in my mind, it didn't seem so wrong. I understand now that it's not ok and I would never do it again. You have my word." Shade looked him up and down. "Typical for a wild Mon! They never understand the rules around here." He muttered. "Wait aren't you supposed to be banned?" He asked. I smiled. "He was but they gave him another chance today." Shade nodded but still didn't seem too pleased about Nolen.
Nolen placed his paw out. "I didn't really get to introduce myself yet. I'm Nolen." Shade grabbed his paw and I heard the crack. "Shade.... Vera's older brother as you know." He replied. Nolen pulled his paw away. "Ah, well it was nice to meet you." He glanced back at me. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow Vera." He said before going out the door. Once he was gone I hissed. "Really Shade? That's how you had to introduce yourself. By attacking him?" he frowned. "Hey, I was only trying to look out for you. And you didn't mention that the guy you like is the Vaporeon who you were scared of for a while after he broke into your store so who's fault do you think that is?" I frowned knowing that he was right. "Shade... I'm sorry... I just didn't know how to tell you. Or how you would react." He padded closer to me. "Vera, all I ever cared about was keeping you happy and safe. I'm your brother you can tell me anything. I'll always take your side you know that!" I hugged him. "I'm sorry.."
"Nah, I'm sorry maybe I am always too Quick to act before I think." he pulled away. "I just get so worried about you." He hesitated for a moment. "Now, don't be mad but I'm not sure I fully trust Nolen... I'm keeping my eyes on him," he said before running up the stairs. I let out a sigh "Why does that not surprise me?" I say to myself as I pad up the stairs. I sit in my bed then notice a Mon out on the street. I cautiously walk up to my window and feel my skin crawl Solstice was on the street watching Nolen as he padded along the path. I shivered feeling a little worried for Nolen. 'What if Solstice does attack him? Nolen did mention he has done that already before. But then the Espeon turns around and goes back inside his house. I close my blinds then go back to my bed and curl up under my blankets. 'I'm Overreacting Solstice isn't dangerous. He's just weird... That's all.

Kaylee's P.O.V.

I was lying on the couch watching a movie with Rea. The Glaceon was watching the screen with great interest until she glanced at the time. *Gasp* "Midnight already?" She paused the Movie. "Kaylee you know I have to get up for work in the morning. Why didn't you tell me how late it was getting?" I rolled my eyes. "Ok, sorry Rea sometimes I forget." She grunted as she got up. She paused seemingly concerned about something. "What?" I asked. "Do your parents usually stay out this late?" I shrugged. "They said they we're gonna be out late. They are dark types after all." She smiled at me then gave me a hug and I could hear her purr. "Goodnight Kaylee I'll see you tomorrow have a good rest." I pulled away then watched her go. I noticed Rea always preferred to hang out with me after work it almost felt like she was my roommate. I placed a feeler under my chin. 'Should I maybe consider moving out? Maybe I could be her roommate. And I was pretty sure my parents wanted me to find my own place. -knock-knock- I awoke from my thoughts as my Attention was now brought to my front door. "Mom?... Dad?" I Hastily pad towords the door and open it without even thinking to check the peephole first. "Why are you guys even-" I pause mid-sentence the Mon that stood before me wasn't my parents. I squinted my eyes trying to see more clearly. I couldn't tell who or what they were. The Mon was wearing a black cloak and I couldn't see his face at all or make out any other details. I immediately got sketched out but when I went for the door he suddenly grabbed me and then I felt something sharp jabbed me. I felt shocked when I realized he had a sharp blade on him. As soon I understood what was happening my fight or flight instincts kicked in. I used Moon Blast and then slammed the door shut. I lay on the floor now weeping in pain as I realized I was losing a lot of blood. My ears pricked up at the sound of a window smashing. I felt my blood run cold knowing that the intruder was now inside my house. I closed my eyes shut. 'Why? Why me? Did I do something to someone? I force myself up only to get hit by a shadow ball. I fell to the floor. "Why are you doing this?" I whimpered. "If this is a Robbery then be my Guest! Take the whole fuckin house! Just let me go!" My attacker was silent. Then I watched in horror as all the broken glass shards lifted into the air then began to spiral towords me. "No, no!" I tried to get up but I was too wounded to move. I let out painful screams as I could feel the millions of shards ripping my flesh away as I was being shredded. Lots of my blood started spilling out but eventually, the pain went away and I couldn't see anything as I fell to the floor losing consciousness.
