"That could be us, huh?" Public displays of drama weren't exactly his thing - but considering Kim Taehyung currently deserved the shame and embarrassment, he was willing to make that sacrifice.
"It could be." They always at at the exact same booth. Even when they came along, they would always choose it. For the entire span of their friendship it had been like some unwritten rule. Far enough back so that they weren't disturbed by foot traffic yet close enough that they could listen in to everyone else's conversations. "But you're playing way too much, Seokjin."
"Please enlighten me about all of this playing I'm apparently doing because either I'm blind or you're imagining things." There had been something there once, he wasn't too angry or shy to admit that. But it was difficult to be around someone like Taehyung and not catch feelings. Not when he made everyone he met feel so special. So wanted.
And maybe that's what Seokjin had developed an affinity for. Being wanted. Actually having someone who wanted him around and not Taehyung himself.
Unfortunately, it was impossible to tell.
"So we're just pretending like you're year long crush on me never happened?" And that was the problem. Because as desperately as he'd tried to hide it, Seokjin had a long history of wearing his heart on his sleeve while trying to act like it was locked behind a wall of ice and wrapped up in spikes and barbed wire.
"Yes? Because in case you haven't noticed I'm -"
"With Jungkook now." Taehyung cut him off. Actually had the audacity, the unadulterated gull to cut him off mid sentence. "I know. You really think walking in here looking like you got attacked by a vampire is going to convince me though?"
"You sound jealous." Never before in his entire life had he regretted developing a stupid crush so much. If he had known that it was going to come back to haunt him he -
Still would have done it, because he was a stupid bitch who never did what was good for him.
"Oh I am. It's unfair he gets to do that to you and I don't." Part of him - the part that was ugly and petty - wanted to say that Taehyung could. For the right price. Could be his next contract and have him walking around with his marks instead of Jungkook's.
But the truth was he didn't want a next contract. Didn't want anyone to come after Jungkook. Wanted it to just be Jungkook and only Jungkook and for that to just be it. Weather it lasted three months or three years, Jungkook was it.
"That's cute. It's cute that you think you could ever be as good to me as he is." Maybe he should be mourning the fact that one of his most treasured friendships seemed to be falling apart at the seams. But this wasn't the first time Taehyung had pulled some ridiculous stunt. Had played with his emotions - usually to get back at whoever he was currently seeing, using Seokjin as both bait and a distraction.
"I could be better." And maybe it would be. Because at least with Taehyung it would be real and not just some written agreement made in exchange for his time and his rent being paid.
But Jungkook was already more real in the span of a single week than Taehyung had been in three years and the trade off just wouldn't be worth it.
"Keep telling yourself that." Placing both of his palms on the table, he leaned in just enough so that he could whisper, voice barely loud enough to be heard. "I know you're only doing this because whoever you were fucking got tired of your bullshit and I'm usually really easy when it comes to you but for the last and final time, Taehyung. I am with Jungkook now. He is mine and I am his and nothing, not you or anything else is going to change that. Got it?"
