It meant something. Seokjin meant something. Their relationship meant something.
So why didn't he feel any different?
Waking with the first pale rays of sunlight streaming across the bed, highlighting the beauty that slept next to him should have been magical. Feeling the weight of another resting within his arms, muscles sore and stiff from what they had done. The tension that had settled within his chest finally eased, chased away by the truth that had been revealed. Getting everything he had wanted, wrapped up neatly and tied together in the package that Seokjin formed, a pretty little bow practically visible upon his head.
So why did he feel so empty?
It was real. What he felt was real. Not just some figment of his imagination, some wish made upon every shooting star he saw, never meant to come true.
Seokjin was his. Not just because some silly piece of paper had made it so but because their hearts had. Seokjin was his and -
The contract.
A million different crazy scenarios all began to play within his mind at once. Conspiracy theories of how it all must have gone down.
They all started with Yoongi contacting Seokjin about him wanting to terminate the contract - and their were a million different reasons he could have gave. Because it was clear that the other thought this entire set up was a very, very, very incredibly bad idea. He could have said anything. Made it seem sweet. Made it seem sinister. Given any set of ulteior motives that could have made Seokjin react in any way.
Even this one.
So Yoongi had to have contacted Seokjin. And alright, that made sense. It did. He could understand why. He did say that his first priority was the babies. Making sure they were taken care of and not being taken advantage of. Really, he could respect that.
So Yoongi contacted Seokjin, and from there it was more difficult to navigate.
Seokjin has responded positively, so rationally he should be able to throw out all of the negative scenarios and only focus on the good. But his brain was incapable of it, coming up with all of the ways this could simply be Seokjin trying to play him.
This was what he wanted, and Seokjin had made it pretty clear from the beginning that he didn't really have any hard and fast limits. That he would pretty much just be whatever Jungkook wanted him to be.
So it could have just been an act. Seokjin going along with the dream that Jungkook had formed. Playing along for the sake of getting paid. Being taken care of was a pretty good incentive to act however he desired.
That would have made sense. On the surface it actually made a lot of it.
But it didn't feel like the truth.
Because every time Seokjin had kissed him, had touched him, it had felt like all of this was real. No one was that good of an actor that they could simulate those emotions in someone else.
There had been a moment, when Seokjin had reached up and pushed his hair behind his ear and their eyes had met and he had just known that all of this was real. That this was their truth and there was nothing else. Just this. Just him and just Seokjin.
So really, it had most likely gone like this.
Yoongi had contacted Seokjin to warn him. How many times had this exact thing happened in the past? Where one party fell and the other didn't? It would be reasonable to think this was that. Just another failed pairing that he was going to have to separate and fix.
But it wasn't just another one sided love story, destined to end in heart ache and tears.
Had Seokjin agreed? Canceled the contract and left them free to pursue whatever was between them without those terms hanging over them? Was that why he hadn't come to him the night before? Was that the true surprise he had meant to give?
Of course it was. Even he could read between the lines enough to figure that out.
But maybe it was just his foolish, hopeful heart wishing for things that would never come true. He really couldn't decide.
"Kookie?" A soft voice broke him out of his thoughts, head snapping back towards the source. Only to find the vision that was Seokjin peering back at him. Dark eyes barely opened in the early morning light, lips puffy and part and the same color pink that was currently dusted across pale cheeks. "What's wrong? I could hear you thinking in my sleep."
"Noth -" But not ever speaking of their feelings was what had gotten them here, lost in so much confusion and conflict. Was what had him doubting, even now, that all of this was real and not just another form of make believe. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course." Seokjin shifted, rolling over until he was half on his side, half on his stomach, one hand coming up to rest next to his head - and he couldn't resist reaching out for it, taking the long, crooked fingers between his own and holding on. "Anything."
"Is this -" He wanted to say it so badly. Wanted to whisper it and put it out into the universe. To finally have a clear answer where none had existed before. "Is this real? What's between us. Is it because it's what you want or because of the contract?"
"Oh Jungkook." The name left his lips like a prayer, soft and reverent. And he didn't even need an answer anymore. Not really. Because he already had it. "You are the only thing I have ever wanted this much."
"I want you too." Wanted Seokjin to be by his side. Wanted to walk this earth together, hand in hand until the end of their days. Wanted to spend his life making this one man happy, making him proud. Wanted to hear Seokjin call him his husband, his love. "So much. So, so much. I tired to cancel the contract but Yoongi -"
"Doesn't understand how sweet and perfect and good you are." Jungkook wasn't at all like the typical sugar daddy. Didn't want this because it was easy and convenient and he just didn't have the time to be available emotionally. No, Jungkook had been so desperately missing that human connection that he was willing to do anything for it. Even pay something to spend time with him. "Or why I agreed to cancel our contract."
"You did?" Sure, thinking back, it had certainly sounded like that's what had happened. The implication of what could happen if the contract just didn't exist anymore. But he wanted - needed - to be sure.
"Mm hm." It was a cute little sound, escaping the other's lip as he nodded, those eyes falling all the way closed - so far from the loud, heart stopping proclamation he may have dreamed of.
But this was so much better.
"Baby." Was Seokjin even his baby any more? Should he even still be calling him that? Would -
"Yes daddy?" But those eyes slipped open and suddenly he was falling into them, becoming so lost that everything else disappeared. Because none of it mattered quite as much as this.
None of it mattered quite as much as Seokjin.
"Will you be mine?" He had asked before. Standing there bathed in glowing candle light with only the moon as their witness. It had felt special. Magical. Like those words were meant to be said there.
But there was something about saying them here, with ever brightening rays of sun falling over them, fingers intertwined and their naked bodies hidden beneath draping black covers.
It felt real.
"I already am."
