"Hey babe." Happiness was a good look for Jungkook. Literally everyone who knew him agreed. They had all gotten over their reservations about the unconventinal way this had started easily. All it took was seeing the way they looked at each other.
"Hello daddy." So happiness looked good on Jungkook. So did black hair, recently cut to get rid of the damage done by rounds of bleaching and dyeing when he had been unable to decide which way he wanted it. It made him look a little older - but honestly Seokjin liked every version of him. Jungkook could shave his head and get a tattoo on his forehead. It wouldn't matter. As long as he was comfortable with himself.
"Bad day?" It was strange, the way they affected each other. How Seokjin encouraged him to become more serious about his classes, until he was actually studying in the middle of the afternoon. But he closed his laptop now, shifting until he was leaning against the back of the couch.
"I just missed you." It wasn't a lie. He always missed Jungkook whenever he wasn't with him. But now it was different. Had him dropping his bag near the front door, slipping off his shoes and letting them fall wherever. All so he could cross the space between them, coming around the couch and lifting himself up, once leg swinging over until he could settled against the other's lap in a straddle.
"I missed you too, baby." There were soft fingers trailing along his cheek, before slipping back, pushing strands of hair behind his ear and out of his eyes. "But I get the feeling that's not what's bothering you." That hand slipped down, cupping his chin and lifting, until he had no choice but to go along with it, raising his head until their eyes could meet, thumb pressing against the fuller bottom lip and tugging. "Tell daddy what's wrong."
"Taehyung came in today. I think it's happened a lot more than Yoongi's told me about." He hadn't asked, but it wasn't hard to figure out.
"Unbelievable. I mean, I get it. You're you and if I was him I wouldn't be able to let you go either. But seriously, how many times does Yoongi have to -"
"I talked to him." The first time it happened, the plan had been just to ignore it. If you ignore something long enough, it'll eventually go away, right? But that had never solved anything. Not once in the history of life had ignoring a problem ever made it disappear.
"Why?" It wasn't that Jungkook was worried that somehow Taehyung would be able to change Seokjin's heart. Because he honestly didn't think anything could. It was that he hated that pieces of Seokjin's past were coming back to haunt him.
"Because I just want it to be over." Sure, he had told Jungkook something's. About how he had come to exist at all. The series of failed foster parents. The last set which had finally set him free. But he had left out how he had accepted whatever affection he could get. "I wanted someone to want me so bad, Jungkook. I just wanted to know what that felt like. Just for a little while. And when he was lonely he would make me feel like that. And I just accepted it because I didn't know any better."
Didn't know that letting himself be used wasn't what would bring him happiness. And it was ironic that the ultimate allowance would be what brought him to the end.
"Now I do." Now he knew what he deserved. Now he knew what it felt like to be wanted. To be loved. And whatever had happened in the past just didn't matter anymore. Just didn't matter as much as this. "I know you and I know your love. I know you want me."
"I want you with all of my heart." The words were whispered, and he sighed as he felt the other's lips moving against his own, the kiss soft and measured. Beautiful. That's what moments like these were. Breath taking. "I love you, Seokjin. Everyday I wake up with you by my side, and I think I can't possibly love you anymore. But then I do."
"I love you too. So much it feels like I can't breathe without you." It hurt to be away from the other. Even when he was doing something as simple as going to work. Every day for the last six months had felt like a dream.
And maybe to anyone else they had moved too fast. Had said those words at week four. Had moved in together at week nine. Had spent every single night wrapped up in each other since that very first moment.
"And I'll love you more when you stop playing around and make me Jeon Seokjin." Because it really did have a nice ring to it.
"We can go now." They didn't need anything fancy. Nothing big or elaborate. Just the two of them, standing there, making promises to each other.
"Yes." It was crazy. And both of them knew that. But neither of them cared. All it would ever be is another unbelievable chapter in the story of their lives. Already so rich and full of tales that no one would ever quite understand unless they had been there. What was one more?
It had started with a contract and it would end with one.
