CHAPTER 5: Shock Of A Lifetime
Samsara stands there, amused, "Weird, baby-thing? Really, Olive?" She asks me.
I purse my lips, "I am not at all good with kids." I point out.
Tobias, Branson, Madison, Reynolds and Harrison all step aside for a crippled Aaron to see as Samsara steps into the room and smiles down at the kid that stares at me, as if enchanted. I look left and right, before Samsara picks up the boy slowly, making baby faces at it.
It screeches and reaches for me.
I blink, "Nope. No." I say to it.
It reaches for me more.
Samsara tries swaying before she studies me, "Do you want to hold him?"
"No." I say, immediately.
It starts crying.
I blink and stand helplessly as Samsara raises an eyebrow at me, holding the baby gently to her shoulder, she turns to me, trying something, the closer the baby gets to me, the less it cries. Then, when it's face is directly in front of mine, it reaches for my hair, "Why is it doing that?"
"It?" Branson blurts out in disbelief at me, while they all watch and I freeze when I see Aaron leaning on the door frame and folding his arms loosely, watching with certain flare in his eyes, penetrating my form, not the baby's, mine.
Samsara waits patiently. My nose twitches, before slowly I reach my hands up awkwardly towards it. It starts giggling and I freeze as Samsara gently rubs it's back while I grip it's waist in my hands, it makes grabby hands at me, slowly I pull it closer.
Before freezing when it glides it's fingers straight for my hair. I look at the boy, narrow-eyed, "What is it doing?" I say, cautiously.
"He likes you." Samsara says. Emphasising the 'he'.
I tense when it whines and reaches for my neck, I blink at it, "No."
"Olive. Just cuddle the baby." Madison says to me.
I stare at it, incredulously, "I'm really not good with children this age, height and build. Seriously, Samsara. Just get the kid back to sleep." I say to her, before getting my hair pulled. I snap my eyes back to the baby's golden ones.
Before freezing, it moves its lips, as if in a plead and begrudgingly, I slide it towards me. And almost immediately, it grabs my bra strand and attempts to pull it down. My eyes widen to saucers, "Hey, you little pervert." I blurt out, hearing choked chuckles from the males.
"He's hungry." Samsara whispers.
I snap my head over to her, "You mean he wants me to provide-oh, bloody hell, No. I'm not producing any liquid substances from my breast, kid." I say to it. It has the audacity to pout as it looks up at me, though that could have been the baby's natural expression.
"Mom-ma." Everyone freezes.
I hold the kid at an arm's length, "No. No. Samsara, just take the kid, give it whatever they consume." I say to her, handing the boy over.
It screeches and cries out, reaching for me, "Mom-ma!" It keeps repeating.
I shake my head profusely at it, Samsara tries swaying, but the cries get worse, I almost cover my ears in annoyance when Reynolds steps in and reaches for the boy, only it starts screaming, reaching for me with more strain. I clench my jaw and strut up to it, "Olive." Aaron says, slowly.
I gently grab the baby and the screaming stops, "Just get the bottle." I say to Samsara, as Reynolds freezes while the baby's head slides into my neck and I almost flinch, stepping back before my hips are gently grasped in strong, masculine hands, he glides me in between his legs and watches over my shoulder as he directs my hand to hold under the child, and the other to rub circles into its back. I freeze and tense, "Relax. He's not going to bite." He murmurs into my hair.
