12: The Future Is Set In Stone

"We didn't kill her!" The brown haired girl called out, making Kyo turn away from All Might. "She was crushed when the ceiling caved in.". 

"I don't believe you." Kyo said, his voice emotionless despite the tears in his eyes. "You dropped it on her. You must have done it with your quirk." He said, repeating it to himself in a whisper. 

"I didn't!" The girl insisted, a desperate expression on her face. Uraraka was running out of time. The angrier Kyo got the more likely he was to take advantage of All Might being bruised and beaten up and her being trapped. 

"You did!" Kyo insisted "Toga wouldn't die from that, she's strong! She's stronger than me, and-and she's kind! She never treated me like a toy! We were friends! Himiko wouldn't-she didn't die from that!" the boy shouted desperately. 

All Might and Uraraka looked at the ground to avoid eye contact. The former no.1's heart broke as the boy continued to insist his friend couldn't die like that. He had always been a very empathetic hero, never one to take a death lightly, regardless of the side that person fought for. It was so obvious to him now that Aizawa had been right, the league was more than a way of getting fed for the young boy. 

"I promise," All Might began "We didn't kill her. It was an accident none of us could have predicted.". Kyo barked out a quick laugh that morphed into a coughing fit. 

"Heroes are useless!" The black haired teen declared, slowly placing Toga's lifeless body on the ground "You can't win against her without resorting to murder?!". Uraraka opened her mouth to speak but Kyo quickly kicked her in the jaw. 

He took a few shaking steps towards All Might who was too injured to move, even with the quick rest Kyo's outburst had given him. "Its all your fault!" Kyo shouted through his tears, his voice broken "You could've saved her! When she wasn't a villain yet! You could have saved me! You could have saved all of us before this happened! Why?!". 

The black haired boy now stood over the hunched over man who looked at the boy's demeanor with a mix of fear and sadness. "Why wasn't I worth saving earlier? Why wasn't Himiko?!" He shouted, his hands shooting out to grab the heroes throat. 

"Stop!" Uraraka screamed from where she was trapped "Stop it!". Kyo didn't stop. His hands got tighter and tighter as the symbol of peace gasped for breath. "Why wasn't I worth enough to them?! Why didn't they ever come?!" Kyo cried out.

"Why?!" He shouted through tears "ANSWER ME!". All Might couldn't think. His brain was losing oxygen too quickly.

He was moments from death. All Might's vision blurred around him as Kyo's shouts were the only thing he could hear. In the moment he said the only thing his mind and body could. 

"I'm sorry.".

Midoriya had come in right as Kyo was at screaming and strangling his mentor. He was too frozen to move, it was what Nighteye had seen, from the fire in the background to Kyo murdering the no.1 with his bare hands. 

The air was frantic, Midoriya wasn't even being touched yet he felt as though he was the one who couldn't breath. Uraraka noticed him and began screaming for the young hero to stop him but he couldn't move. 

Then with his final words All Might died and Kyo dropped him to the ground with a thud. 

'All Might shouldn't have apologized' Midoriya thought frantically. He had thought Kyo could be the one to heal him, that was the role he had given to the younger teen. This wasn't it. He had defeated the destiny Nighteye had seen for him, why couldn't All Might? Why couldn't Kyo?

Just like the other two Kyo felt more overwhelmed than he ever had before. The heroes final words rang in his head a moment or two before his tears started to drop the ground. "No one.." He said frantically "No, no one ever apologized to me-". His breathing picked up as he looked at All Might's lifeless body. "No one's ever said sorry before. No one! No hero has ever-" Kyo sobbed loudly. 

The 1-A students if what they saw was spontaneous quirk evolution or a power Kyo had possessed from the start but they had never seen anything like it before. 

The red glow that represented his healing enveloped the boy, morphing his already red eyes into completely red, shiny jewel like things. He dropped to his knees and clutched All Might's body close to his. Midoriya could barely make out the silhouette of Kyo kissing the pro hero's forehead before the light turned blinding. 

"I accept your apology." Kyo sobbed as the 1-A students shielded their eyes "And I'm sorry too.". 

In a flash the light had disappeared leaving only the light from the fires still raging on outside to light the destroyed landing. Deku's eyes adjusted slowly and when he did it was like someone had freed his limbs from their numbness. 

Quickly he rushed to where the two laid, Kyo's body tightly clutching All Might's. Neither of them moved and Midoriya dropped to his knees by their side. He shifted Kyo off of All Might carefully and checked to see if he had survived the chocking somehow. 

Placing his ear right by his mentor's heart he waited for a sound. There it was, a steady, strong heartbeat. Tears that had been frozen before welled up in the young hero's eyes and dripped onto All Might's bloody shirt. He was alive. 

"Is he alive?" A small voice came from behind him. Midoriya whipped his head around and saw Uraraka using her quirk to move the piece of rubble she had been trapped under with her leg perfectly fine. Midoriya nodded and a small smile graced her face. "I was healed too, it must have been Kyo's quirk but...he didn't kiss me." She said in awe. 

Suddenly they heard movement from the other side of the landing. The two stared in shock as Toga steadied herself into a sitting position. "What happened?" She asked before clutching her throat. It was completely dry and talking burned with white hot pain. Quickly she took a drink from the water bottle attached to her belt. 

The other two stared in shock. She had been dead. She was dead up until a moment ago. Then it dawned on Izuku, All Might hadn't miraculously survived, Kyo had done this. 

Midoriya looked at the two girls in the room and then himself. None of them had any injuries, in fact, he felt better than he had in weeks. The former no.1 stirred and quickly sat up. "What happened?" He said in a worried tone "Are you all alright? I thought I was really going to die there...". 

"You did." Izuku said, still in shock himself "So did she," He pointed to Toga "Kyo brought you both back.". 

He let the statement sit there for a moment. No one could quite believe it, not even Toga, but it was real. The attention soon turned to Kyo who was laying lifeless on the ground, All Might's shirt still tight in his grasp. "Don't just stand there!" Toga shouted, pushing the two out of the way. She crossed her fingers for a second as she listened for a heart beat. 

Slow, irregular and barely there, but it was there and that was all that mattered. Tears of relief filled the blonde's eyes as she gently hugged the boy to her chest. "He's alive!" She cheered.

I'm sad that Shatter's ended but it does allow me to do things like this and finally finish Newbie! 

Just a heads up for the next chapter, 

Due to Kyo's involvement with Eri's rescue changing some things Nighteye sustained major injuries during the overhaul fight but did not die. So he's retired from active duty but still alive and functioning.
