18. Saying goodbye

"You can't expel him" I quickly said. The principal looked at me confused. "I'm not mad at him. In fact I have forgiven him. His actions weren't-" I started but Shoto cut me off. "It's alright" he said. "No it's not" I said mad and put my bag on the floor.

"I'm not letting you get expelled" I said. "Miss y/l/n, we are just following the rules. A student of UC shall never purposely use harmful actions towards fellow students. Students who break the rule and purposely hurt others will get expelled immediately" he said.

"He didn't do it on purpose" I said. "It was my own fault" I added. The principal looked at me confused. "You're trying to say that you hurt yourself?" he asked. "Yes" I answered. He let out a laugh.

"Come on miss y/l/n we both know that's not what happened. You don't have to defend Todoroki over here" he said and put his hand on Shoto's shoulder before squeezing it tightly. I could see Shoto flinch. "He deserves to face the consequences of his brutal actions" he said.

"I object" I said. "This isn't court. There is no way to object. Todoroki broke the rules and-" he started but I cut him off. "I used my mind manipulating quirk on him. I was in control of his actions. It was my mistake for losing control over him. He didn't know what he was doing. As if someone else was in charge of his body. How are you going to blame him for this.? The poor guy doesn't even remember how anything happened. He wasn't conscious" I said.

I could see that the principal took my words seriously. "Is that true?" the principal asked Shoto. He silently nodded. "What punishment do you have in mind?" the principal asked.

"None" I said. "Let him go" I added. "You guys want to expel him because you think it'll make me feel better. But I'm here to say that it won't. So please just let him go" I said. 

"It won't be so easy. I'll have to rethink the options and decisions and discuss with other people before being able to give a final conclusion. Until then, Shoto you are free to go" he said.

"Thank you" he said and grabbed his bag before leaving the principal's office.

"You didn't have to-" he started but I cut him off. "Why did you lie to me?" I asked. He immediately got quiet. "Answer" I demanded. "It doesn't matter" he said. "Oh so lying to me should be normalised?" I asked offended. "No no that's not what I'm saying-" he started but I cut him off. "You didn't tell me your punishment was getting expelled. Were you planning on just leaving me?" I asked.

He didn't say anything back. "Shoto answer me" I said. He still remained silent. "You wanted to just leave me here didn't you" I said. "Do you even like me?" I asked. He looked at me surprised. "Of course I do" he said. "Then why did you lie to me. If I didn't bash into his office you'd be expelled straight off the bat. "I know" he mumbled.

"Are you hiding something?" I asked. "No" he simply said. We were close to his car at this point as we were continuing to walk. "I don't trust you" I said. "All your words seem like lies to me. You're avoiding my questions. You're acting strange" I said. "I'm sorry" was all he said. "Don't drive me home, I'll take the bus" I said before walking away.

He didn't even stop me.

I made my way to the bus stop and sat down. Why would he lie to me? Did he want to leave UC? Or was there something that I didn't know?

Todoroki's P.O.V

As I drove home, I felt the feeling of guilt increase. I didn't mean to lie to y/n. I just didn't know how to tell her. Going to UC was something that I wanted since I was a child. I wanted to save people. Help people. Be there for people in need.

I had always looked up to All Might as a child. It drove my dad insane. He wanted me to admire him as a father and hero.

Getting told that I would get expelled made my heart shatter into pieces. I couldn't handle it. It was the main reason that I didn't go to school for a few days. Despite y/n having talked to the principal, I don't have a lot of hope that they'll let me stay.

After all, what I did was horrible. Y/n shouldn't have forgiven me in the first place.

Everyone at school hates me for what I did. They're not interested in the full story. They just want a reason to pick on me.

Maybe it was best if I left UC.
