CHAPTER 28

“I’m sorry Baby. I’m sorry.” Humagulgol ako habang yakap siya. I saw droplet of tears from his eyes but I know he’s in a peaceful place right now, smiling. “Please forgive me.” Travis cries silently on the other side.

Nakasandal ang likuran niya sa kama. Nakapatong sa tuhod and isa pang kamay. Nakayuko sya, marahas na umalog ang balikat. Masakit sa akin na mawala si Bogart pero alam kong wala ng mas sasakit pa kay Travis ang lahat. The dogs are with him from the very start. Wala pa ako, kasama niya na ang mga ito. The Dogs are his very first companion when he's lonely and broken.

They were already here before I came. I leave this place but they stayed faithful to him. I don’t know his struggles, how hard it is to look at his best friend in pain but still fighting because he’s waiting for me. How hard it is for Travis to say a promised that he’ll take me back here though there’s no certainty that I will.

Wala akong magawa kundi ang yumuko at umiyak. I feel so guilty for abandoning him. I feel guilty for him, giving his best to keep going until he can finally see me so he can bid his goodbye. I left them for so long but until his last breath, he still wants to see me.

Umayos ng upo si Travis kaya nakita ko ang nag-uunahang luha sa mga mata niya. Lumapit siya sa amin at kinuha si Bogart sa bisig ko. He carry the dog and hugged him tightly while crying hard. He didn't care if he cries in front of me. He's too occupied with the pain.

"T." I reach for his shoulder and hugged him too.

We shared the tears and pain of losing a friend, we mourn together. Nanatili kaming magkayakap ng ilang minuto. Walang nag salita. Bumitaw si Travis sa akin at tinitigan ng matagal ang aso.

"I was never ready for his farewell though I knew this is coming." Bulong niya bago umiling at kunin ang cellphone. He called and Informed Ate Melissa. He also texted some of his cousins and Tyrell.

He carry Bogart with the crib downstairs. He lay the crib along with the dog on the sofa. Ate Melissa was shock to see the Dog lifeless and at the same time, see me with Travis, after I went gone for years. Avariell was beside her mother. She innocently stares at Bogart. She pulled her mother's blouse asking for an answer.

Ate Melissa crouched down and whispered some words on Avariell but the Kid titled her head multiple times before breaking down. He run towards Bogart and hugged the dog while crying. My tears fell down again. The scenery is too painful to handle. Ate Melissa tried to get Avariell away but the kid yield and hug the Dog tighter.

Avariell father's came after a  few minutes but all he can do is to hug his Wife, and Daughter who's still clinging on Bogart. Kuya Randy wipes her daughters tear and tried to calm the kid but Avariell was already hysterical. She titled her head and disagree with his father's sweet promises.

The Kid seems very close to the Dogs and I don't have to wonder why. She grew up here with Boomer, Boston and Bogart. I knew that the boys are her first
best friend growing up.

"Travis."

Travis was seated on the sofa, just beside Bogart. Nakasampa ang parehong siko sa hita. He comb his hair in frustration and massage his forehead. Lumapit ako sa kaniya at tinapik siya sa balikat.

"Bogart is our guardian angel now. He's in a happy place." He cocked his head upwards and smiled bitterly.

Tumayo siya at hinarap ako. "I'm sorry. I can't tour you around. I'll call Tyrell to be your companion. I need to sent him to the funeral."

"No, it's Okay."

He nodded slowly. "Ihahatid na kita pabalik sa resort."

"No! Please." Bogart patiently waited on me for years tapos iiwan ko nalang siya?  I want to be here for him. Gusto kong bumawi kahit alam kong huli na ang lahat. "I'll stay with you. I want to be here for him."
