As I was about to confess everything, a waitress walked towards us. She was holding a pen and a paper. Her eyes have dark bags underneath which proves that she hasn't got much sleep lately. Her hair is fixed in to a bun with a hair net on top. She gave me a faint smile.
"So may I take your order?" she said then rolled her eyes.
I hate these kind of people. They seem to have no interest in their life and they show it in the least interesting ways. I need to stop thinking about this and focus on my confession to my best friend. I know it shouldn't be hard to be open to your best friend, but I have this phobia of losing people when I become too open.
"We'll have 2 orders of blueberry pancakes and 2 strong coffee." Nicole smirked at the waitress. I noticed the name tag she is wearing. Her name is Cindy, what a pretty name. I shook my head trying to force myself back to reality. Nicole looked at me confused.
"Is there anything else you want?" she asked.
"Nah, I'm good. My headache is really bugging me." i lied.
The waitress rolled her eyes again and headed back to the kitchen. I can't stand her. I looked away and stared at Nicole's eyes. She seems to be waiting for me to explain to her. I took a deep breath to gather some confidence.
"Yeah, what I said was true. I'm sorry if you had to hear it while I was drunk. I'm still not sure of it yet though. I just don't want to put labels at the moment." I explained. I hope this is enough, I am so pathetic with having conversations. I'd rather write a 5-page essay rather than talk about my feelings. I wait for her reaction. She gave me a poker face which bothers me because I cannot decipher her emotions.
She sighed and said, "I'm just a little disappointed you didn't tell me earlier. I won't leave you. I know you have this paranoia about that, but you should know that I will never do that. You're the only person who can understand me. Besides, I think I already had an idea about that."
I furrowed my brows. Wait. What? She thinks?
"There's nothing to be ashamed off. I see the way you check on guys all the time!" she added then let out a loud laugh. I didn't know she thought of me that way. The waitress went back balancing a tray on her palm which is totally cool. She gave us blueberry pancakes and without hesitation i dig in. After the not-so-surprising confession, we talked about her quickie with the nerd. She told me it was the weirdest experience, because it lasted for not more than 5 minutes. We both laughed hysterically. I just love being around her. She makes things easy for me. I just hope she could multiply so I'd have many friends.
Damn. I sound depressing.
I looked at my watchand noticed it was already 8:30AM. We had so much fun together that we lost track of time. I have to meet up with Red. I am tutoring him for his English class. Nicole yawned, she must be exhausted. I stood up and she followed. I put my arm on her shoulder. I decided to plant a kiss on her cheeks. I'm thankful I have a friend like her.
"What's that for? Don't tell me with our little chat you decided to go back on the straight path?!" She said as she pushed my face away.
"I don't see anything wrong with kissing you on the cheeks, we're on the same page anyways." I said. She held my hand twirling around. People in the parking lot started looking at us smiling.
Weird.
I drove her off to her house. Her house is painted cream with a big wooden door, like the ones you usually see in mansions. Her mother was on their porch talking to her husband. Shr stood up from her seat and approaches us as we approach her as well. I feel my stomach churning from the inside. I hope the diner's smell overpowered the alcohol that reeks from us.
Lynda, Nicole's mother, cupped her hands on my cheeks pressing it making me look like a fish.
"Where have you been lately, young man? I missed you!" she exclaimed.
Nicole grinned while shaking her head.
"Mom, I am right here. Your daughter?" sh said jokingly.
I tried to hide my smile.
"Oh sush. I just missed James so much. So, how's the party?" she said then winked at me.
Nicole groans.
"It was wonderful Mrs. Alfonso. I am sorry for bringing her home this late." i said trying to win her with my charm. I can't help it, parents love me.
She laughed then said, "What are you talking about? I trust you, so i didn't need to worry."
Nicole groans again even louder.
She took Lynda's wrist and literally drag her out of our conversation. I am a little thankful for her rude gesture.
I waved her goodbye and nods at her father.
"I'll call you later, James!" Nicole shouted as she closed the door with a thud.
I went back to my car and let out a sigh. I turned up the radio to keep myself from thinking about coming out.
I turned left as I reached the corner of the street. Red's house is only a few blocks away. I shook the idea of me telling my family about who I am. I just can't, they'll hate my guts. I think I'll do this one step at a time.
I slowly parked my car in front of Red's house. I looked at the lawn which is spacious. The sprinkler's are watering the plants. Red is very rich. I don't even know why he needed a tutor. He could take over his family's business in a couple of years.
I reached the front door and pressed on the doorbell. I always liked the sound it make.
Diiiing diiiing dooong doong
It sounded like a church. The door swung open and I was greeted by Red. He is still on his pajamas. He is wearing blue pajamas and his hair is all messed up. The doorbell must have woke him up. I gave him a smile.
"Morning, Red."
He squints his eyes then widens it. I could see his blue eyes sparkle. It's so beautiful.
Oh no. Stop.
He smiled and clears his throat. He moved aside telling me to come in. I followed him to the living room where a pillow and a blanket is placed on the couch. He must have slept here.
"My parents are out for the weekend. As usual." he said sarcastically.
I tried to hide my frown. I can't hide my pity from him. I hope he finds someone who he could spend his time rather than beating himself up with his distant relationship woth his parents.
He fixed his hair brushing it with his hands. He looks adorable. Oh shit. I need to stop thinking like this.
I let myself sit on the other couch.
"Hey, I am here. We could do so much fun with English, aye?" i said hoping he'll appreciate my little joke.
He smiled then laughed.
I looked at him confusingly.
"Really? Well, I was thinking. Since it is a Saturday. We could do this English shit tomorrow and help me out with something else?" he offered.
I pondered for a little while, pressing my chin with my index finger.
He pouts his lips trying to win me over with his puppy eyes. My inside melted. I couldn't help it.
I sighed and said, "Fiiiiiiiiine. You owe me a granola bar!"
He laughed then went off. I think he is heading for the kitchen.
I looked up the cealing that has a chandelier. I just can't remove the butterflies raging in my stomach everytime I hear him smile.
So, if you're reading this, thank you because you have gone this far. It's my first time ever to write here and I just want to warn you that this is mainly about homosexuality, so if you're not up to that. I am sorry. I would love to hear what you guys think. I am also open for suggestions. xx
