I walk in the living room where Mary is watching a reality show about a family, I squinch my eyes to identify who the cast are, my face lights up, it's the Kardashians. Stefan sits at the far end of the couch. There back point towards me. I hear ball dribbling outside. It's probably Daniel and Rey. Their usual father-son bonding takes place any time of the day.

I clear my throat to get their attention. Mom turns to face me with a grin.

"Uhm.. I'll just head out for a bit... Don't, uhm, bother leaving the door open... I might stay out late.. Uhm, maybe I could come back tomorrow.. To uhm, pick up my car." I can't hold an eye contact so I point my eyes toward the ground.

"Oh, sure. Where exactly are you going? I'm not aware that you know any place here to hang out, besides it's almost midnight. There aren't any shop open for you to go." My mother says.

"I could come with you.. I could show you around actually." Stefan faces me with expectant eyes. If it weren't for Red, I would love his idea. I could use some time with my brother for a change.

I turn my gaze to mom then to Stefan. I can't blame her with her amused look on her face. I know that she wants me to bond with them and it must be thrilling her about his proposal.

"No! I would just.. Uhm.. Drive around town.. Just to... Shit.." I feel my blood rushing. I suck at lying. I can't even think of a lame excuse.

Mary sighs. I knew it. I can't be with them without disappointing them.

"If you want some time alone and think about something that's bothering you and get a fresh air... You can go... James.." I face her forcing my eyes to keep contact.

"Just remember that I'm right here if you need something, okay?" She half smiles.

Thank goodness.

I bow my head and rush towards the front door. I open it and take in the cold air.  The Christmasy breeze envelopes my body. I walk on the lawn not minding whether or not my mother might get mad. I lay on the grass and look up at the dark sky. The town lights overpower the stars, hiding them from the darkness of the night sky.

I hear a car rustling on the driveway. I open my eyes and see Red's car. I don't feel like moving. He could walk towards me and pick me up. I just want to enjoy the cold breeze and the night sky. I close my eyes again.

"Love?" I open my eyes and Red is beside me. He looks up and back at me wondering what I'm doing.

"Don't you just admire the silence? And how beautiful the dark is? I've never felt so comfortable facing darkness." I whisper closing my eyes again.

I feel a warm kiss plant on my cheek. I turn to face Red and he cups my cheeks with his warm hands.

"There's something I need to tell you..."

I try to decipher his emotions, but none. I stand up. I forgot that I'm at my parent's lawn. What if they saw Red kissed me?

"Let's drive around, ye?" I put out my hand to reach his and help him stand.

He's been driving for ten minutes already. He hasn't said a single word.

He leans forward on the steering wheel, focusing his eyes on the road. The silence is deafening.

"Red, are you okay?" Worry comes with the words. He leans back to his seat.

"Uhm.. Yeah.." He blinks his eyes. Clearly he's thinking about something else. I pry my hand on his when he puts his hand on the clutch.
