"Am I supposed to laugh?" I sounded a little harsh.

"Oh no, sorry, I didn't mean it that way." he sound worried.

I sighed. Why am I taking my anger to him? I need someone to talk to, not someone I could fight with.

"No... I'm sorry for being a jerk.. I'm just a little... hurt... Gosh, I don't even know why I'm telling you this... I'm sorry, am I disturbing you with your job?"

He giggled.

"You said sorry two times already. No, you're not disturbing me I'm about to leave work, I get off at 7:30. Uhm, do you want company?"

I really don't know if it's right to open up to a stranger, especially to someone who tried to flirt with you.

The pause was too long.

"Still there?" he asked.

"Sorry, yeah. Where can we meet?" I made up my mind to talk to him.

"How 'bout I'll wait for you in front of the ice cream shop?"

"Okay, I'm on my way."

It's already late and I don't know how long it'll take us to talk. My grandmother must be worried sick. It's a school night and I'm still outside. I already missed school today. I don't want to skip again.

I can see the lad sitting by the sidewalk in front of the shop. He stood up. He must've noticed my car. I parked my car and rolled the window down of the passenger's seat.

"I'm sorry if I took so long." I apologized.

"You're apologizing again. You're funny."

He got inside the car and I started to feel tensed.

"Where to now?" he said enthusiastically.

"Where do you get all those energy?"

He pouts and turned to face the road.

"I don't want to think of my problems when I'm outside. There is a time and place for that..." he said softly.

The words hit me. I don't want to sulk at home thinking about my problems. I guess he's right, but I need a friend right now.

He turned to face me.

"I didn't catch your name, sorry. My name is Cliff." he smiled.

"James." I smiled back. It's nice that I made a new friend.

"You said you were hurt?"

"Yeah, and I'm this desperate to call a complete stranger to talk to me. I don't even know if you're a psychopath." I chuckled at the thought.

"Hey, I'm just a 16 year old who works at an ice cream store." he raises his hands in defense.

"I don't think that's enough information for me to know, since I already know that."

"Okay okay. I just finished high school last summer. I have a little sister, she is the cutest, I swear. I'm saving up for college, so the ice cream is temporary. I lost my dad when I was 7, my mother provides everything for me and my sis. D'you want more?" he smiled.

"I guess that's okay. Where do you want to go to college?"

"Hold up, I thought I'm here, because you need someone to talk to?"

"Somehow I forgot my problems when we started this conversation..." I looked down to my lap. We're still at my car. I don't exactly know where we should go, but this seems like the perfect place to just talk.
