Chapter 41

[The next day]

"Hyung, wake up! I think you need to see this!" Seungmin barges into the room, ignoring the fact Minho is sleeping, naked.

"What is it?" He grunts, not bothering to cover his private area either.

"When I searched for Hyunjin's profile, I found that his surname was changed when he was six from Hwang to Yang, BUT this is different Yang. It was different family instead of Jeongin's father."

"Okay...? Uh.. continue."

"This woman. You probably recognize her as Hyunjin's mother. But she wasn't. She was her twins."

"That's... Do you have any information about her sister's whereabouts? She's probably the one who always gives Hyunjin money and also buys him a house."

Seungmin sighs. "She had passed away one month before Hyunjin was registered as Yang, which means, the one who did that was actually his own mother."

"Wait, I'm lost... So Hyunjin's mother registered her own son as her sister's?"

"Yeah. More specifically, she did it before sending Hyunjin to the orphanage."

"The hell?! Did she really hate Hyunjin to the point she tried to remove her own son from the family tree? Why did she treat him like he never existed?"

"Or maybe, she tried to hide Hyunjin from someone."

"What?? Who??"

Seungmin hesitates for a second before showing the latter a photograph. "She's married to your uncle, Yang Hajoon."

Minho mentally growls at the name. He's apparently the one that takes over his father's company after he rejects the offer to do so. "What about him?"

The younger then shows another photograph with three figures on it; that Yang Hajoon guy, his father, and another figure. On this one, Minho seems to recognize the one who's standing next to his father--Hwang Minjun.

"And what about this picture?"

"That's Hyunjin hyung's father.. As in your Hyunjin."

"What?!!" He gets up and Seungmin instinctively covers his eyes, whining at the abrupt action.

"Where is-" Minho doesn't finish his sentence; realizes for a fact that his boyfriend's father has already died.

"He was accused as an abuser, wasn't he? Just like my dad." He bitterly chuckles. "He would have probably been accused as a murderer too, but his mother is still alive... Does that mean she betrayed his husband and abandon his son just so she could live?"

Another sigh escapes Seungmin's mouth. "I understand your point, hyung. But I'm sure Hyunjin's mother had her reason."

Then as if on cue, Felix calls.

"Hey, Lixie. Got some news?"

"Not much. But I've tried to look for Yang Hajoon's case. He's... kind of clean. As in clean because someone cleared his record."

"Details." Minho demands.

"About six years ago, his wife tried to report him for murder of her first husband. But there were no files. And the recent one came from his own son, Yang Jeongin. He tried to report him for physical abuse. But again, no files are found. Just a report, without any proofs."

After ending the call, Minho just blankly stares at the ceiling before stating, "Do you think it was all just a coincidence?"

Seungmin shakes his head. "Hyunjin hyung's father was your dad's secretary. But above all, he was your dad's right-hand man. I doubt it was just coincidence, hyung."

The older grunts. "So when I thought my dead uncle did horrible things to my parents because of jealousy and money, turned out it was more than just that, wasn't it?"

The latter nods. "And hyung.. You probably hate to hear this, but I think Hyunjin hyung's mother is the living witness to prove your father's and Hyunjin's father innocence. We need to keep her safe."

"Agreed. She's the key all along."
