Part 19
Adrien's POV
Chills ran up and down my spine as I made my way towards the hospital doors where Marinette was staying. I couldn't tell if it was just the blustery wind getting up my jacket or the impending doom that was awaiting me when I tell Marinette what I had done with her miraculous.
The doors opened for me and I could smell the aroma of the hospital. I made my way into the elevator and to Marinette's room after I had checked in with the front desk lady. I saw her on her bed drawing something. I knocked before placing the group of flowers I had behind my back.
"Come in," she said without looking up.
I slowly opened the door and her eyes looked up to me. It had been three days since I had last seen her.
"Adrien?" She started. "Where have you been?"
"I'm so sorry I haven't been able to see you... like this," I said feeling the guilt gnaw at me from inside.
"It's okay," She started again. Something felt a little cold and distant. "Um Adrien... my miraculous have vanished..."
"See that is where I may help you..." I first handed her the bouquet of lilacs and white tulips, followed by the two singular earrings that I placed in her other hand.
She looked down at them and back up at me.
"Did you take them from me when I was... like knocked out?"
"Yes," I started before going on my hands and knees by the side of her bed. I was now below her eye level looking up at her and I tried to hold both of her hands in an embarrassingly begging type of manner. "It was to keep you safe! I didn't want my father to take advantage of you while you were unconscious and all that so I took them to take the target off of your back and I tried to give them to your Mr. Fu because I honestly do not trust myself in the slightest with any responsibilities. It was all for your best interest Marinette... I hope you can forgive me but I completely understand if that is out of the question."
I rambled for too long didn't I? I thought to myself before resting my face in her lap.
Marinette's POV
Was he done talking yet? Was all I could think to myself as he went on and on. Did he really think I would be mad at him for trying to protect me? Yeah... it did piss me off that he thought I was utterly defenseless, but in some situations, I was. Especially considering my injuries.
I gently rubbed the nape of his neck with my fingers as his head rested. His body tensed up for a second most likely due to the shock that I hadn't gotten mad at him.
"Adrien," I say gently lifting his chin with my hand so that his gaze could meet mine. "Thank you."
His eyes looked shocked and surprised but he smiled back at me. This kid was the definition of a golden retriever boy.
"I am so sorry for not telling you, I just thought it would have been best if you didn't know."
"Oh yeah," I said, grabbing his chin a little more taught and lowering my head as much as I could. "Don't lie to me again, mkay?" I said in a serious tone followed by a slight smile that turned into a laugh because of the genuine fear on his face.
"I missed you," He said before standing up to hug my upper body since my lower body was still in a healing process.
"I've missed you too," I replied.
His scent was like sunshine. Even in the middle of the winter, he smelled like a warm summer day where everything just feels perfect. I wanted to hug him forever... but our embrace would soon be interrupted by an unforeseen interruption.
...
Adrien's POV
"Adrien!" a voice exclaimed as there were intense knocks on the door.
I looked up at Marinette and she nodded and let them in.
"Come in," she said with concern in her voice.
The man that came in stumbling through the door was none other than Nathalie. What was she doing here and why? My father had to have sent her.
"Adrien," she said practically out of breath. "You must return home... with the girl."
"No way in hell am I bringing Marinette with me... one of my father's men shot her and she is still in urgent care from the internal bleeding that he caused. He hurt someone I deeply care about and he will pay," I said looking at Marinette.
She was playing with her hands and looking down. I just wanted her to be safe. This is what love truly is about.
"Adrien, your father didn't send anyone to shoot at Marinette," Nathalie said.
"That's bull shit," I replied.
"I mean it. I wouldn't lie to you about this."
"Who the hell would want her miraculous or mine for that matter other than the likes of my greedy father? Maybe you can come up with another lie that will sound more believable."
"You really don't get it. Are you that naive to your surroundings? You don't know the power that those miraculous hold?"
"They can grant one wish when united," I said. "Your point?"
"That power could go for millions on the black market. Did you forget what industry you worked in? You were a spy and now both of your identities have been revealed if someone from an outside organization shot Marinette. This situation is extreme Adrien."
I never had even thought of that. How had I never even realized that someone outside of my father's organization could want to harm Marinette. My father currently has the cat miraculous... so that means he will never ever let it go until someone possibly assassinates him. He may be the most cruel man I have ever met, but at least his goals are to revive someone he loved even though his ways of doing it are completely wrong. I'll at least give him that. There's no way he would sell the miraculous and sell us out along with it. That's insane. I really was too naive to realize the gravity of the situation I am in.
"Adrien," I heard as a hand gently grabbed my arm. I was spaced out analyzing every way these changes in events could happen. "You know we would be safer with your father right now because of everything that is going on."
Marinette was never the type to be this submissive to a threat.
"Adrien, please assist me in walking to the restroom. My abdomen is better but it is still healing," Marinette asked and I walked her out into a family bathroom past the lobby. Once we got in she stood upright all on her own. She didn't seem hurt anymore... I was confused.
"Wait what about all you said in there? About being okay with all of this?" I asked.
"Adrien. Am I really the kind of girl to give up and be 'okay' with things?" She got her face really close to me asked this as her striking blue eyes pierced me in the most gentle way.
"No. Not at all," I said as I smirked at her.
"Then let's get out of here," she whispered and started to turn away.
I quickly grabbed her arm and she looked at me with confusion. Gently grabbing her neck, I pulled her close to me and brought her lips to mine. I really missed her. I missed us.
To be continued...
