Part 11

Adrien's POV

I looked at her from behind. All I could see right now was her silhouette created by the glow of the warm city lights down below. She sat on the ledge dangling her feet over the streets. She looked vulnerable... and off guard.

I slowly approached her from behind. I didn't want to startle her but who knows how she will react when she sees me. She's smart so I am sure she has figured out my identity by now.

As I inched closer my heart started racing. This had never happened to me before. In my heart I felt scared... like I was scared to lose something.

"Ladybug," I whisper asked from behind.

She turned around sharply and I was greeted with a yo-yo bonk on the head. It was light, but it still hurt. She looked at me and I saw the water under her eyes glistening from the lights below. She curled back up into a ball and fell to her side while watching the streets below. Was she crying?

"Yes Chat Noir?" she asked, still turned away.

"Hey, are you okay? Normally you would try to knock me off of the side of the building or something... or pin me down and make me question my manhood."

"You know I couldn't do that now," she said as she sighed.

"Why?" I asked.

She paused once more and took a deep breath. I moved closer and sat beside her. She was on my left laying down as I say up dangling my feet over the edge like she once did.

"Now that I know who you are," she stated.

I knew it. There was no way someone as smart as her wouldn't have picked up on who I was.

"And who exactly am I?" I asked her seeing what her response would be.

She slightly raised her arm and slapped the side of my leg.

"Don't be stupid and try to test me. I know it's you Adrien."

Something about her saying my name made me blush. I couldn't help it. How was she my enemy all this time... well she still technically is.

"Ahh, well you got me..." I said as my face flushed pink and I scratched the back of my neck. I heard her sniffle. "Why are you crying Marinette?"

"I can't believe I have been fighting with you of all people since high school... everyday we are practically at each other's throats and now this happens...I just don't know how to feel."

"I don't know what to do either honestly... I-"

"What is your motive? I need to know- sometimes even I forget why I am still fighting you. You must have a strong reason Adrien..."

"I would rather keep it to myself thank you," I replied.

"It must be important," she started to say before she started to get up and leave.

"Wait!" I said grabbing her hand. "Please don't go."

She paused and looked in my eyes for a bit and then sat back down beside me.

"What?"

"I like spending time with you Marinette," I said.

"I was hoping that night would be the last one of those nights between us you know. We are supposed to be going against each other," she said.

I paused for a moment and looked into her eyes again. They were a mesmerizing blue that could capture you. Suddenly I felt her head on my lap. She laid her head and cuddled up to me. I didn't know how to react.

"You know you are very confusing right? I am VERY confused right now," I said trying to get an answer from her and her strange actions.

"I'm confused too you know," she said as she started to close her eyes. I saw a tear fall. She must have more going on than I know of.

I was drawn to her. I tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear and gently swiped my thumb under her eye to dry her tears. She opened her eyes again and I pulled my hand away and looked away from her.

"You didn't have to stop," she said with a little laugh. My cheeks flushed again.

"Oh okay, haha" I replied and I continued to play with her hair. Her earrings were right there. Right in my fingers. I could finally make my father proud of me.

But I won't. Some things just aren't worth it.
