▌Chapter 22 ─ Red Locks ▌
━━━━━ STEPHANIE CLIMBED OUT of Daisy holding onto her gun as she looked around. Lennox wasn't far from her. The two had been working together as the leaders of their team. She walked forward, walking next to him.
"Mr. Voshkod." Lennox called out, as they looked at him and his men that stood across from them. He walked up to them as Lennox and Stephanie came to a stop. "So, uninhabited since '86." Lennox added.
Stephanie looked back watching Hero and Caspian step out and walk over to them. After the events in Egypt, Hero agreed to fight by her side. And eventually the two were able to convince Caspian to come out and help them. She still got to spend a lot of time with her family, and that was only because she had put that on the table.
"I hear it won't be livable again for another 20,000 years?"
"At least. Ukraine was the most fertile land. It's a tragedy. This way." Mr. Voshkod said, walking past them.
"Gear up! We have 60 minutes on the ground." Stephanie shouted, looking around at the team.
"Watch your radiation levels." Lennox said, shortly after.
Stephanie placed the mask over her face and adjusted it, then she readjusted her gun, soon following after Mr. Voshkod. Stephanie and Lennox came to a stop looking at the man.
"Mr. Voshkod, where's your protective gear?" He didn't answer the question. They walked into the building and Lennox continued to question him. "Where's your protective gear?"
"It would not matter. For me, it's only a matter of time. Through the school." They proceeded to move on, Lennox and Stephanie still lead their team, Hero and Caspian followed closely behind the two. Mr. Voshkod turned to look back at the two. "Yuri will take you below. And one other thing, Colonel's." He then pulled Stephanie and Lennox away from the others. "In private, there were some energy experiments. It can wait."
He then took off leaving them behind. Stephanie turned slightly watching the man leave, it was almost like fear ran through him. She looked back at Hero and Caspian, something now didn't sit right with the three of them. They moved forward heading towards the specific area they had been looking for.
Stephanie looked at the object before her. "Optimus, we got a visual." Lennox informed the Autobot. "Looks like the object's clamped in some kind of metal harness." Lennox then looked down. "What's this?" He proceeded to dust it off. "Guys!" Lennox looked to Yuri. "Why does this thing have Soviet space program markings on it? Sputnik?"
"Energon readings, sir. It's strong. Below us. It's coming fast."
"We need to get out of here, now." Caspian said, looking at Stephanie and Lennox. After she had said that a worm like creature busted out and moved towards the metal objects knocking them down.
"Contact. Contact."
They all started firing at the worm, but it however reached out and killed some of the men. Then it reached for the object that they had found and grabbed a hold of it pulling it back.
"Get topside now! Move, move, move!" Lennox shouted. Stephanie took off running behind Lennox, Hero and Caspian followed behind them as did the rest of the men. "Let's go!"
"Weapons up! Heavy weapons up!" Stephanie shouted.
"Stay behind me!" Prime shouted, running with his sword and shield.
They ran into the field of Chernobyl, Stephanie held her gun high in the air holding her finger at the trigger.
"Optimus!" Stephanie watched as some of the men shot at the worm, then it started to move towards them.
"It's circling around us!"
"It's taking our flank!" Optimus flipped around as it jumped out of the ground. Stephanie watched as he sliced the head off and rolled to the ground.
"Get the heavy weapon!" Shock fell onto her face as another robot came out of the worm.
"Optimus!" It shouted, with a ruffled voice.
They watched as the worm disappeared back into the ground. Stephanie stood up and lowered her gun. Hero and Caspian walked over to her as she looked at them.
"What the hell was that thing?" Lennox asked.
"That is Shockwave." Optimus said, throwing the sword to the ground.
"Why was he after this?" Lennox went on to ask, looking at the object on the dirt. Optimus dropped his shield and kneeled down.
"It's impossible. This is an engine part from a long lost Autobot ship."
They made it back to the front Stephanie climbed into the driver's side while Caspian and Hero climbed in after her.
"What are we gonna do?" Hero asked her.
"We have to go rogue. I need to get to my brother now, Daisy." Stephanie said.
"He has job interviews." Daisy said.
"Something was off about what happened here. I need to make a stop though."
"You got it."
Stephanie walked into her apartment and pulled the blonde wig off. She unraveled her red locks that had been growing out for a while now. She grabbed her suit and her batons, then she walked out of her apartment heading back to her friends. Daisy popped the trunk and she put everything in. Then she got back in and looked at her friends as Daisy drove off.
"You're hair." Hero said, looking at it.
"Yes, I know. I stopped dying it blonde a while ago. Red is my natural hair color." Stephanie said.
"How come you didn't tell us?" Caspian asked her.
"I didn't think it was necessary. My family is the only ones who know about my hair."
"Well, I like it."
"Yeah, me too."
"Glad I got your approval. Find my brother please."
