▌Chapter 1 ─ Attacked ▌
━━━━━ STEPHANIE SAT NEXT to William as the group talked about what they would be doing when they got back home. She was thrilled to go home to see her parents and brother. It had been a while since she had last seen them and she knew that they had missed her too.
"You've been talking about barbecued 'gators and crickets for the last two weeks. I'm never going to your mama's house, Fig. I promise." Epps informed him, while Stephanie rolled her eyes.
"But Bobby, Bobby, 'gators are known to have the most succulent meat." Fig replied, trying to change the man's opinion.
"I understand." Epps said.
Stephanie placed a smirk on her face when Fig started speaking Spanish. Soon enough Epps started mocking him, which was the normal thing between the two.
"English, please. English." Stephanie looked over at William as he started to talk to Fig.
"I mean, how many times have we... We don't speak Spanish. I told you that." William told Fig.
"Why you gotta ruin it for me, man? That's my heritage." Fig told them, looking over at Stephanie.
"Es porque no tomaron clases de español. No te preocupes, te hablaré contigo en español cuando quieras, Fig." Stephanie replied in Spanish causing the rest of her team to look at her.
"Sí, gracias, por eso me gustas, Steph." Fig told her.
"De nada, podríamos burlarnos de estos hombres por ahora y no tendrían idea." Stephanie told him soon placing a giant smile on her face.
"Hey, you guys remember weekends? Huh? The Sox at Fenway. Cold hotdog and a flat beer." Stephanie allowed her head to fall back as Fig looked over at Lennox.
"What about you, Captain? You got a perfect day?" Fig asked him.
"I just can't wait to hold my baby girl for the first time." He replied. Stephanie smiled at the soft side he was showing.
"What about you, Steph?" Epps asked, causing all eyes to fall on her.
"I just can't wait to see my parents and brother. It's been so long." Stephanie replied, as she choppers started to lower down towards the ground.
Standing up from the chair she grabbed her bag, and held onto her gun. The group walked off the choppers heading towards their base. Stephanie separated from the men going to her own courtiers where she could be alone. Throwing her bag on the ground and placing her gun on top of her chest. Walking towards her bed she collapsed to it, allowing herself to fall asleep.

Stephanie had her gear back on, walking out of her room she looked around as the sun began to set in the distance. She found her way to Epps, as the lights went out briefly then came back on.
"What the hell?" Stephanie questioned looking around the area.
Gunshots could be heard in the distance, the two turned around seeing something unknown to them. The two looked at each other then took off running, Stephanie kept up with Epps, throwing her gear on her shoulder.
"They bombed the antenna farm! We're under attack!" Epps shouted informing Lennox.
The team gathered together, running away trying to escape to safety. Stephanie gripped onto her gun following behind the men as the creature behind them continued to attack the area. Stephanie lifted her gun holding it in front of her as they passed by the numerous tanks that had been lined up.
They continued to run until they came to another set of tanks, Stephanie slid on the sand, turning around and holding her gun up as the creature slammed its foot down on the ground. She looked further to see Epps below it.
She then noticed that the creature looked like some kind of robot. Stephanie shoved her gun on the ground along with her gear. Standing up she pushed herself towards Epps, landing behind him she looked up at the robot.
Pushing Epps off the ground, a blast came towards the robot giving the two just enough time to make a run for it. They ran back towards the tanks, Stephanie grabbed her gun turning back around in the sand and aiming her gun up towards the robot.
She watched as it shot something towards them causing a small explosion but not enough to kill the team. Stephanie grabbed her bag, turning around and running down the line of tanks. Stephanie turned back around watching as the robot continued to destroy their base.
Lennox stopped looking back to see that Stephanie had not been with them. He left the group running back towards Stephanie grabbing her and pulling her back towards their team.
"We have to go, come on." Lennox called out to her. She only nodded in response, turning around and following behind Lennox.

The sun had heated the sand up making it a hot day. Stephanie stood next to Epps while the rest of the team either stood on the tank on guard or around the tank taking a break.
"I've never seen a weapons system like this. The thermal shows this weird aura around the exoskeleton like it's cloaked by some kind of invisible force field." Epps informed the team as Lennox took the camera to look at the image.
"That's impossible. There's no such thing as invisible force fields except in, like, comic book stuff, right?" Donnelly asked, looking around the team.
Stephanie looked around the area holding her gun close, Epps looked over to her walking towards her.
"Hey." Epps called out, gaining her attention.
"Yeah?" Stephanie asked, looking over at him.
"Thanks for saving my life." Epps said, causing her to smile at her.
"Eh, it was the least I could do for the amount of times you've saved my life." Stephanie replied, looking away from Epps.
"How about you use those magic voodoo powers and get us the hell out of here, huh?" Donnelly asked Fig.
"When I took that picture, I think it saw me. It looked right at me." Epps told everyone.
"All right, we got to get this thing back to the Pentagon right away. They got to know what we're dealing with here." Lennox told the team.
"My radio's fried. I got no communication with aerial." Epps said, looking over at Stephanie.
"Hey, Mahfouz." Lennox called out. Stephanie turned to look at the kid that had been at the base with them when they were attacked. "How far do you live from here?" Lennox proceeded to ask him.
"Not far. Just up that mountain." He answered, pointing the way they needed to go.
"Do they have a phone?" Lennox asked the kid.
"Yes." Mahfouz simply replied.
"All right, let's hit it." Lennox called out.
Stephanie adjusted her gun and began walking in the direction of Mahfouz's home. Stephanie knew that it would be a bit of a walk, but she had to be prepared for whatever might attack them along the way.
