Chapter 22: NO!

Safer to who? I gasped air opening my eyes, jumping up and shaking my head.

"No, I can't" I started to take off all the wires and IV with my shaking hands, confused. As soon I was free, I stumbled out crying, changed my clothes , signed some papers and began to walk out. I wanted to go home but my feet wouldn't carry me. So I sat on the bench and stared to the wall, tears running down my face. I felt something else. Guilt.

Jai's POV:

I sat in the taxi, driving to the clinic that Kat had instructed. I had major hangover and jet lag. I must've looked like shit, smelling like booze and cigarettes. My eyes were droopy and red from crying. They say that men are allowed to cry only at the weddings and funerals. Bullshit!

I paid to the taxi driver and ran to the clinic. She was sitting there on the bench, crying. Oh no! Am I too late? I am! Aren't I?

"Anna." I said with a trembling voice and asked accusingly "What did you do?"

She gasped, turned to see me, startled, her eyes pooled with tears. She stood up and backed few steps behind.

"WHAT THE FUCK have you done, Anna?" I asked again yelling, feeling the anger rise as I smashed her against the wall and throwing the fist onto the wall beside Anna's head.

"Stop, you're scaring me!" she cried out.

"I'm scaring you? But what about me? Don't I have the right to say something before you go and do fucking stupid thing like that?" I cried gritting my teeth and grimaced my face pounding my fingers on my chest.

"I-I coul.. I couldn't do it." she whispered crying "I feel so awful."

"You what?" I asked under my breath, feeling so tired all of a sudden, letting my hands fall on my sides "Why Anna? Why didn't you tell me?" I demanded answers.

"I panicked. It's too soon, it's not the right time. I thought that you also don't want surprises. I guess I was scared to end up alone with a baby I wasn't ready to raise." she explained sobbing.

"Surprises? Are you fucking shitting me? Life's full of surprises! This is my baby, you hear me!" I took her head between my hands, searching her guilty eyes "So you think that I'd let my kid grow up without a father?!" I breathe roughly through my nose.

She shook her head, more tears rolling down from her cheeks.

"No? But still, you weren't planning to tell me. I can't believe you did this to me." I sat down, head between my arms, feeling my heart hurt. Is it possible to cause pain like this? I thought trying to calm myself down.

After a while she came to stand in front of me and held up a sonogram picture. I took it and stared at it with my trembling hands.

She sat next to me.

"10 weeks? Anna, it says ten weeks." I asked in disbelief, feeling my heart hurt again. She nodded wiping tear stains from her cheeks.

Ten weeks? It was around New Years Eve.. "Of course. New Years Eve." I tried to explain Anna how was this possible "Remember, you were drunk as fuck and threw up at some point. I'm pretty sure there went your pill."

"Oh, that.." she was able to say. "How could I've been so stupid?" she asked herself, pounding her forehead with her knuckles, fresh tears piling up in her eyes.

"Hey, don't do that." I said standing up, grabbing her wrists and yanking her up. I looked in her eyes and saw sadness, fear and quilt. I felt so mad because of what she was about to do but I could yell at her any more. "I'm still angry at you, but I need to ask. Do you still want to get rid of our baby?" She shook her head before I could finish.

"I made this decision based on my fears in life, I panicked and thought I was doing the right thing for me. And for you. I was wrong. And Kat tried to talk me over saying I'd break your heart. Jai, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." she started crying again.

"It's okay, babies." I said, plural. There's two of them now.

We went to my hotel room to rest, meaning we laid on the bed, embracing each other, him telling about his ideas and dreams for the future. I listened to him until he dozed off. I got up without waking him and took my phone to look through the messages I had ignored for some time. Kat had texted me, probably going nuts. I replied to her, saying that I.. we were okay and he was with us. I promised we'd go see her before we leave. I went to take a bath afterwards.

Jai's POV:

I woke up to the unpleasant sound coming from the bathroom. I sat up, looking at the time on my phone. Too early, I sighed and stood up, walking to the bathroom, seeing her throwing up.

"Ugh..." was the only thing she could say, trying to catch her breath.

"Morning to you too, baby." I said bit amused. She saw that and hit her death stare on me. Tho she felt sick, I couldn't help but to feel happy, excited about the reason. She was growing my kid in her womb. "Sorry, baby." I apologized, crouching next to her, brushing her hair out of the way. She leaned her head against the wall, panting, trying to calm her breathing.

"Feel better?" I asked after a moment. She nodded, sighing.

"Come, let me take you to bed." I said helping her stand up and walked her to the bed. I took a phone and ordered some brekkie. When it arrived I took the tray to the bed.

"Thank you." she was grateful, trying to take a hold of my hand.

"I'm still pissed at you!" I said bit irritated. 

"I know." she said quickly and pulled her hand away.

"I told Kat we'd stop by before we go." she said serious after few bites, probably wondering if I'd even want to go with her.

"Sure. I mean, if you have the energy, yeah." I agreed, trying to sound more cheery. I needed to get over the negative thoughts. 

"Okay, good." she said bit surprised. 

"I wanna see little Jenni myself." I told. After some time gathering her strength, she got up and we got ourselves ready. I ordered  cab for us.

Kat was happy to see us, whole and together. It seemed she wasn't ready to let Anna go from the hug. Kat looked at me over Annas shoulder, nodding. I nodded back. It's all we needed to say. Anna was fine, the baby was fine, we were together.

The moment I got to hold that tiny girl in my arms was magical. I liked the feeling, I knew I wanted it. I was ready for it. And Anna could see it. I hoped it would assure her.
