Chapter 24: Lets get down to business

"Oh shit!" I froze on the spot realizing that my water broke. Phone, where's my phone. I dialled Jai. Not picking up. Out of the days I could possibly go into labour, she chooses the day that her daddy is out drinking with the boys. I shook my head dialling Jai's friends number. After a few rings Kevin answered and I asked him to put Jai on the phone.

"Jai, it's your wife!" Kevin yelled out.

I heard him laughing and having fun and I felt bad that I had to drag his drunken ass to the hospital.

"Yeah? Hi babiezz." he said clearly drunk as fuck.

"Baby time!" I said hoping his not panicking.

"Oh shit!" he turned away from the phone and yelled "Yo fuckers, I'm off, I'm going to be a dad some time tonight!" I heard cheering on the background.

"Yeah, honey it's all sweet but, get your fucking ass here asap! We need to go soon." I ordered.

"Oh gawd, I love it when you're bossy." he said excited, "be there in 10 minutes." He hung up.

I was sitting on my fitness ball, timing the contractions when he barged in like a crazy person "Babies, I'm here, lets go!"

"Will you calm down, please." I said holding my hand with a wristwatch in front of me massaging my round belly blowing out air through my mouth "5 minutes apart."

"Lets get going then." he was restless , helping me up "Wte have 15 min drive. Where's your bag?"

"Oh my god you stink like walking distillery!" I laughed sanding up and pointing to the bag.

"Give me a kiss then." he said grabbing me from behind.

"Ewwww, Jai, how much did you drank? I could get intoxicated just by kissing you." I laughed and we walked out of the front door. Going out the elevator I suddenly froze, breathing through my contraction. Jai stood beside me, supporting me. "You okay?" he asked when the contraction was over. I nodded and we continued walking to our car.

I put on my beautiful hospital gown and stepped out of the bathroom.

"Oh, honey, that's sexy!" he laughed

"Yeah right..." I answered when the midwife came in greeting us. I went to lay down on the bed and she examined me while Jai sat besides me, holding my hand, giggling. When the midwife stared him questioning, I explained "Ignore him, his guys night out was wayyyy to fun."

"You're 6 cm dilated. Mr. Courtney, there's a vending machine in the end of the corridor, If you want some coffee." midwife said, smiling.

"Yeah, go sober up." I added.

"Thank you,.." he leaned forward to see her name"... Laura." He stood up, gave me a kiss on my forehead and left the room.

Laura attached CTG on me to monitor my contractions and measured my blood pressure.

"Everything seems to be normal. Just try to relax and breathe. And if there's anything you need, don't hesitate to press the button." she said smiling and walked out of the room.

Jai came back with coffee and a bottle of orange juice. I was standing in front of the bed, listening to music and swaying my hips to relieve the pain. Jai put the drinks on the table and came behind me placing his hands on my hips, swaying with me and moving the hands on my belly. He kissed me on the cheek "How we're doing?"

"Good. 4 min apart." I smiled and froze when another contraction came. Jai massaged my lower back and when the contraction was over he said smirking "You know what they say, Goes in with the pleasure and out with the pain."

"Shut up!" I laughed knowing that probably soon I won't be laughing anymore "Get some sleep, drunk! It's gonna take a while."

He kissed me and sat on the armchair on the other side of the bed. Soon he was asleep, snoring slightly, his one foot placed over another, arms crossed on his bulky chest. His cap dragged over his eyes. At that moment I was glad that he was there, tho there wasn't any use of him. His existence made me happy.

Jai's POV:

I opened my eyes feeling that somebody was shaking me. "Yeah, I'm awake." I said standing up from the chair yawning, ready for action. "Your baby is about to born, Mr. Courtney." the nurse said.

"Why didn't you woke me up earlier?" I asked walking to Anna.

She was laying on the bed, attached to the monitors, all sweaty, her hair glued to her neck. She looked at my way and reached for my hand.

"She's in pain, has she had some painkiller or something?" I asked worried.

"It's okay, Jai. I'm fine." she said, so brave. I bet when I would be in such pain I would cry out like a baby.

"Mrs. Courtney refused of any painkillers." the nurse replied.

With every contraction I felt that her pain grew, literally. She squeezed my hand with the strength I didn't know she had. Man up, Jai. I toughened up. Between every contraction I placed my head against hers and said how much I loved her and that soon we'd have our babygirl. She nodded every time smiling through discomfort, glad to hear me talk like that.

Soon it was time to press and she gave her all. It took 5 pushes for the baby to born. As soon it happened she sighed and started to cry out of relief. The midwife took the baby on her bare chest and congratulated us. I thanked her and kissed Anna on her head, tears in my eyes. I took a picture of her and admired them. This is it. This is my family, I thought kissing Anna repeatedly telling her how much I loved her. "I've waited you since I was aware of you." I told my daughter.

Suddenly Anna's smile faded and the nurse told her to push one more time.

"Are you sure? Check again?" I heard them saying after few minutes "Yes, call back up!"
