I rip my eyes off of Veronica once I hear the doorbell. "I'll get it," I announce and walk over to the door.

I swing it open to be welcomed by the Martinez's also known as our favorite family, they are our first cousins on our mom's side. I smile and open the door wider letting them in. "It's been a while since we've seen each other dumbass," Olivia says ruffling my hair making me frown. Olivia is a year younger than Catalina but acts much more mature than any of us, she acts as the big sister when I'm supposed to act like the big brother.

"Livvy!" Cata yells as she throws her arms around Olivia's shoulders, they both laugh and hug each other.

After hugging each other and saying their welcome, Livvy's eyes scan the room to Veronica. She waves at her with a tight smile and Veronica smiles back looking between her and Catalina.

We are all outside as our uncle barbeques some chicken on the grill and we sit on the benches eating corn. "So hey I heard about your dad was coming, where is he?" Olivia asks wiping her mouth, Catalina and I share a look.

"He's late like the dick he is, probably won't even show up." Catalina huffs and we fall quiet as he walks through the sliding glass door. All eyes are on him and our mom looks at us for help. None of us move except Veronica who makes her way to him with our mom.

"Now that she's gone, what's wrong with you three, you're barely saying a word to her," Livvy asks and Catalina looks down at her plate.

"And you, why can't you see she has literal heart eyes for you?" She says looking over at me and slapping the back of my head.

"Oh trust me we all can," Catalina says angrily before stomping away back inside.

"Well? Start talking." She says and I sigh and tell her everything. By the time I finish she slaps the back of my head again. "hey!" I groan.

"That's for being an idiot," She says making me roll my eyes. "Now go help those two become friends again and get over your stupid little crush, we both know you're just in it for the game." She says and I look at her blank-faced.

"I don't think it is," I say and she looks at me with a straight face before bursting out laughing, to the point she's holding her stomach from laughing too hard. Once she reels back in she realizes. "Oh you're being serious-" she says and I nod. "But then again she is with someone." I shrug.

"But obviously wants to be with you or else she'd be thousands of miles away from here by now, I mean look what I did," She said with a playful smile making me roll my eyes and punch her arm softly.

After eating barbeque for dinner, I make my way to Veronica. She lifts her brows in surprise as I approach her.

"If you want to be friends with her don't give up, because that's what you're doing. 'I know I'm not wanted here' really? make yourself be wanted." I say and she nods slowly with wide eyes. "I don't know go hang out like old times, reminisce of those memories, it's really not that hard," I say and slouch down on the couch.

She keeps looking at me and nods. "Well? what are you waiting for?" I say pointing to Catalina with my eyes where she stands in the kitchen drinking a glass of who knows what.

Veronica hurriedly scurries over to Catalina and after a few moments, a small smile, but a smile overall breaks out onto her face.

I feel the weight of the sofa go down beside me, where my dad sits. I glare at him before watching Catalina and Veronica again.

"She's pretty," he says and I shrug not wanting to converse with him.

"Will, you at least talk to me?" He sighs and I look over at him.

"what's there to talk about?" I shoot back.

"How have you been? Tell me about your life?" He says.

"You would know if you were in my life." I bite.

"Is she your girlfriend?" He asks dodging my comment.

"I wish," I say before I can stop myself, a small smile grows on his face.

For the next 15 minutes, it's me and him talking, and I didn't actually lash out at him so I'm proud. He actually isn't that bad to talk to, guess some people really do change.
