Veronica fell asleep on-call so I put my phone on charge facing it up at the ceiling and putting myself on mute. I made my way to the bathroom and start brushing my teeth then hopping into the shower.

I feel the cold water rippling down my muscles as I tilt my head back against the shower wall. I start to think, I shouldn't just be hung up on somebody who's with someone else. I need to move on, because that's how life works. But somewhere in the back of my mind I know I won't be able to think of someone else but her.

I shake my head trying to shake my thoughts of her out of my head as I pour shampoo over my head and massage my scalp. After scrubbing myself clean and wrapping a towel around myself, I head back to my room and change into a pair of joggers.

I flop down onto the bed and look at my phone screen, still seeing Ronnie sleeping peacefully. I smile at the screen before realizing what my plan was, moving on. I shake my head and pull the smile off of my face.

hesitating to end the call, but after a moment my thumb makes contact with the red button and the screen goes black. I put the phone back down and lay on my back, looking up at the ceiling. I close my eyes letting myself get consumed with the darkness.
