The boys had crawled around the small alley way as they once did months ago, when had just met. Kuroo's random spazzing echoed through the closed in walls, making Kenma sigh as his bones cracked. As they once came through the entrance, they looked at the more overgrown area, still as lonely as ever.
At first the teenagers had not seen the accident, just slowly standing up and wiping off the dirt from their knees. Kenma groaned from how tried he was, Kuroo just had random tics, not paying attention to Kenma's whining.
Both slowly approached the small pond in the middle of the mossy and small court yard. Once they reached the pond, tips of their shoes almost touching the water, their eyes widened. Maybe a living organism was not suited for such an overgrown and horrible area, as the pure black fish was dead. Laying on his side, the other fish was still trying to make the infinite circle.
"Well looks like I'm dying," Kuroo mumbled.
"What the hell," Kenma murmured from the dead fish and Kuroo's statement. "How..?"
Kenma crouched down by the pool, staring at the dark koi fish floating around in the water, the moon shining over, giving light. The other fish swam rapidly around the other, as if in a panic. Kuroo crouched next to Kenma, making his knees pop.
"Kuro.. what do you mean, you're dead?" Kenma stated.
"Oh," Kuroo chuckled, "Well the black fish kind of symboled me. And well the other fish symboled you, in my eyes. As you see— Pinch! — the black fish.. is well — DEAD! —"
Kenma stared at Kuroo in a shocking manor, "Kuro don't say that."
Kuroo laughed in response, shrugging his shoulders. "It's bound to happen eventually."
"Do not say that," Kenma sternly said, looking back at the dead fish. "You're not going to die anytime soon."
"Aw, someone — Moo, Moo! — cares!" Kuroo shoved Kenma's shoulder the slightest, teasing him.
Kenma huffed, paying no attention to the boy next to him. He looked up at the sky, sighing. Slowly Kenma sat down, which turned into laying flat, looking at the sky. The weeds growing out of the cracks on the concrete tickles at his next and fingers. Kenma closed his eyes for a couple seconds, thinking about all the embarrassing moments.
"Happy birthday," Kenma whispered.
Kuroo smiled, "Thanks."
"Hey Kuro?"
"Kenma?"
"I love you."
Kuroo stayed silent.
"Can't believe I would say 'I love you' first.." Kenma laughed, "I'm such an embarrassment."
"Why..?" Kuroo laid down next to the other boy.
"Don't ask me."
"But, — Pop, Pop! Poppy! —"
Kenma's eyes glistened, "I don't know, I just have this gooey feeling for you. I'm stuck to it." Kenma gasped quietly, "Ew, what the fuck, that was disgusting."
Kuroo started to laugh loudly, echoing off the walls. Kenma stared at him for a bit, joining after he kept wheezing, sounding like a hyena.
"I.. liked," Kuroo wheezed, "It a lot."
Kenma was chuckling too, "Forget about it."
"I love you too Kenma," Kuroo calmed down, catching his breath. "But I don't deserve your love."
Kenma sat up, keeping his legs crisscrossed. He kept his head low, shading his eyes. "I hate it so much when you say that. So what if we've only known each other for a year?" He gritted through his teeth, "I'm not worth your love, so what does it matter? We can both drown in the senseless love we hold for each other."
Kuroo sat up, hunching his back. He sighed, punching the ground, making his knuckles hurt. "I don't.. know." He looked at Kenma. Kenma was shaking the slightest. "Hey don't cry now," Kuroo laughed.
Kenma took a big breath in, "It's like you cant see anything clear Kuro." He was slowly breathing, preparing to say a long statement. "Stop letting your fucking tics get in your way, it's just.. We're both stupidly shattered into pieces, we can't live correctly. We've tried to tape them, glue them, anything. But they fall to the ground again.. breaking into smaller ones."
Kuroo stared in shock, his tics had suddenly calmed down from the random rant Kenma had.
"We've tried.. so hard! And where are we? Practically mourning over a dead fish who looked like you! I just want to live a normal ass life, maybe play a sport.." Kenma cradled his head between his knees. "I want to live with you Kuro, just.. live."
Kuroo pulled his knees in as well, "Then we'll live a shattered life."
"Please don't, that was so cliché." Kenma cringed.
Kuroo slid closer to Kenma, knees touched. "Hey Kenmaa, look at mee." Kuroo stared at the back of Kenma's head.
"Bonk!" Kuroo hit Kenma's head with his fist, "Wackamole!"
Kenma's head sunk more in between his knees, his back hunched.
"Kenma!" Kuroo hollered, causing Kenma to bolt up and look around. He groaned and looked at Kuroo.
"Hm?" Kenma sighed.
Kuroo looked into Kenma's eyes, starring into his soul. He took his hand and pressed it onto Kenma's cheek. Kenma looked startled at first, slowly he sighed. Kuroo sat there for a bit, then started to laugh. "You look so calm at this moment."
Kenma let out a weak smile, "You as well."
"I think," Kuroo's tics had settled down at this moment, touching Kenma's face. "I just.."
"Do it." The other boy said bluntly.
Kuroo chuckled, inching closer to Kenma's face. Before their lips could touch, Kuroo stopped moving forward and directed his eyes into Kenma's, his eyes softened. Both of their eyes shown brightly. Kenma had exhaled slowly and pushed forwards, closing the space in between them. Both of their lips brushed against each other's. Kenma laughed a bit, smiling into the small kiss.
"You're so gay." He smiled as their lips continued to stay together.
That night was something you could call magical. It was beautiful, except for the rotting fish that had symbolized one of the boys. Love had exploded, emotions floated around into the sky. Happiness was something they experienced together, full of life. But November pasted, sliding into December. Another Christmas spent together, another time to spend as a family; Kuroo, Kenma, Misaki, Kuroo's Father. Scratch the last person once we reach January.
