The fifth Hokage assigned Team 7 on a mission, and Naruto made a inaudible vow to himself.

He will not let his emotions bring him down.

No. Matter. What.

Hotaru and Utakata both had a bond they could not break-a teacher that was special in the eyes of his student.

Naruto watched them as he saved both of their lives, they made him wish for something he couldn't have.

Something special with Sasuke.

If Sasuke were there with him, Naruto would have so many things to say to him like;

"You are my other half."

"Your eyes are special to me, they gleam, shine, and they look very pretty when you look at me."

"Just because we're both guys, doesn't mean we are doing something wrong by loving each other. This feels right and I don't want to lose this moment with you."

"I didn't mean those things I said years ago, I was being an ass. I actually really respect you as a shinobi."

"Is it okay if I told you 'I love you' every day? Because I want you to know my feelings are true."

"I know we kiss...but can we do other things too? Like cuddle? Hug? Go on dates? Do sleepovers? Become a fighting duo that is unstoppable?"

"I know this is weird to say but...can I have your last name? Or you have mines? I mean, once we get married of course, I just want us to be bonded forever one day, dattebayo."

All of the things Naruto wanted to say to Sasuke, it almost seemed inconsiderate to do, because Sasuke said he does not want to let anyone else into his life.

His brother, Itachi, torn down everything he believed was peace and love right in front of his eyes.

Naruto hoped Sasuke didn't regret loving him, and covered up his own feelings with a lie.

The pit of his beating heart screamed 'go to him' and 'he loves you', but his gut screamed louder saying 'not yet' and 'give him time'.

So Naruto did.

He took the teacher and student connection to heart to remember that letting someone into your life isn't easy.

Utakata didn't want to become a teacher at first, but in the end he gave in and took Hotaru under his wing.

If Utakata can come around, maybe one day-Sasuke will too.

Sasuke will look at Naruto in the eyes and tell him 'I love you' or 'I want us to be together'.

Because all Naruto wants is to be someone special to him.

Someone he can trust, love, and hold close for the rest of their lives.
