Chapter 2- Wellsbury
"Oh my..." the words couldn't even form on my tongue as I just stared in awe at our new house. It was surprisingly big, somewhere I had always dreamed to live and write my books in. Ginny and Austin hadn't moved an inch, they were frozen in shock. Was this actually out home? It was a lot better than the dirty, grotty places mom's ex-boyfriends lived in. The house was secluded among spindly trees in Wellsbury's best looking street, Wellsbury Way. The house looked pretty ancient but still in relatively good shape. The walls were painted a creamy white on the inside, and there were too balconies, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining room. I pinched myself when no one was looking, because part of me didn't believe we would live in the luxury of our own home. It seemed too good to be true. "Mom, which one is my room?" Austin asked, and mom pointed to the upstairs and said we were free to pick, but no fighting. As if! I shoved Ginny and Austin a little brutally and raced up the stairs at the speed of lightning. I could hear them scrambling up behind me, their heavy breaths pounding in my ear. Finally, I reached the largest king sized room. "I bag this one!" I announced, and I was sure my sapphire eyes were gleaming with content. "That's not fair, Charlie. I'm older. I need the bigger room for my studying. Get out!" Ginny ordered. I didn't reply, just shoved the door in her face. "Mom, I bagged the room fair and square! It doesn't belong to you, Virginia." I drew out the words in a mocking way as her face flushed in obvious rage. "Charlotte, it's mine! I'm not sleeping in the room across from Austin! He snores till I want to punch him."
"Tough," I replied, casually folding my arms across my chest. "Should've gotten here first."
"What's all this commotion, girls? Austin's already chosen the next room. Ginny, let Charlie pack and get the next room. Finders, keepers." I couldn't help a smile creeping across my room as Ginny shot me a look that could kill. The only place I ever had my own room was In my step dad Kenny's, but it was still squalid and I didn't like sleeping next to his and mom's room. I heard what they did in there, the dirty animals. Ginny always had everything more than me. She was barely a year older than me, but she would be a a sophomore and I was a freshman this year, which seemed crazy to think how the time really flew past us. I flung my backpack at my new bed, and just lay there, thinking. School started tomorrow. I only had a few hours to unpack and get ready for that. I missed my best friend, Anika, in Maine, but since Kenny had died in that fatal car accident Mom seemed determined to forget Maine. She told us she didn't want the memories to haunt us forever, and we needed another fresh start. To be honest, I never really liked Kenny, but he seemed good to mom and treated us well. He always played cars with Austin too. Heaving a great sigh, I got my clothes out and decided to get busy.
