Chapter 9- Leon Parker
"Class, we have a new student, who came to the school yesterday. Everyone, say hello to Charlotte Miller." Mr Jones announced. I hated being the centre of attention sometimes.
"Uh, it's Charlie, Mr Jones." I corrected. Every class I had, the teacher had introduced me to everyone. The same pointless ritual. I didn't think Ginny or Austin were faring much better than me. As I bent my head down to start writing, a voice jerked me out of my disarray of thoughts,
"Sorry I was late, Sir. Uh, I woke up late." A boy with bronzed caramel skin and sapphire eyes walked through the door. The class erupted into laughter at his arrival, and Mr Jones didnt look impressed.
"Mr Parker, don't think you can just stroll into the class whenever you please. Detention for 45 minutes with me after school."
"Sorry, sir. I get it." Then the boy, who Max told me was called Leon, sat in front of my seat. He didn't seem at all upset about the fact he'd gotten a detention! I had received a detention at my old school for forgetting a piece of homework on the American Civil War at home, and I'd bawled my eyes out all evening. But this boy treated everything like a joke.
"Hey, can I have a pen?" He asked me. So he just decided to walk into the school without a pen, when we could have a pop test sprung onto us at the last minute. Resisting the urge to claw the smug look on his face, I gave him a faded my little pony pencil that Austin had left in my pencil case. "Here" I enjoyed watching the dissatisfied look on his face, but then he looked up and asked me, "what's your name, hottie?" I wanted to punch him. "Shut up, you jerk" I hissed and I hoped the look on my face said enough. He shrugged his shoulders, but smiled at me. Oh, that smile! His cheeks dimpled and face glowed. No! What was I thinking? Aria was looking at me weirdly. She then passed me a note. While Mr Jones was busy bullying someone in the front row, I checked what she had written:
"What happened? I saw Leon talking to you!"
I mouthed back to her, "I'll tell you and the girls later" Aria was a lot less terrifying than her sister. Something bad definitely must've happened between Abigail Littman and Maxine Baker. "Hey, sorry if I upset you, new girl. You seem ho- I mean, nice!" He scratched his neck and grinned some more. And then I felt something in my chest. It felt raw and real. "My names Charlie. Meet me at my locker. Number 123." Maybe he seemed nice enough. Aria was looking at me with her inquisitive gaze, so I leaned my head down and carried on with my work. I realised then I hadn't written a single thing all lesson.
