Chapter 19- Getting ready for the Halloween Party
"Kar, give me back my lipstick!" Madi yelled and ran over to Kara before yanking the strawberry pink lipstick from her hands.
"I'm going to fucking kill you Madison! You jogged me! I have to look perfect! Didnt you hear Josh Cooley is gonna be at the party? I'm hoping to get some of him tonight!" She cried, as Madi threw a cushion at her. We were all in Brodie's sister Lily's room. She was also a friend of Max's, and said we could ready in her room before heading down to the basement. All four of us had decided to dress up as as female devils. I pulled on my Scarlett dress, while Aria did the zipper for me.
"All the red on me doesn't make my hair stand out! I wish I had your freckles, Charlie. They're so pretty. You know a girl in my elementary class, Shirley Creevey, once told me a freckle comes on you every time you're kissed!"
"Bullshit. I swear they're genetic." I replied. Aria shrugged her nonchalant expression before taking her shirt off. We had gotten so comfortable together we didn't mind not looking away while changing. Sometimes it was mad to contemplate how these three girls were the reason I even bothered to show up to school. They were truly my soul sisters. Which felt cheesy to describe them as, but it was true.
"I love you guys." I whispered.
"Love you too!"
"I can't imagine not living in a world with you guys. We're so all living in a house together when we're older!"
"Let's please live in conjoined apartments in New York?" Kara begged, and we all nodded. I couldn't begin to describe how in such a short amount of time, to all the Blue Moon Cafe visits, to hanging out in our rooms and going to the cinema, how much they meant to me.
"If you die, I die with you." Madi said solemnly. I think it was the only time I'd ever heard her so serious.
"Why are we getting so emotional?" Aria sniffed and went back to carefully applying more makeup. Finally, I was ready with my costume. Leon would be at the party too, and he told me he'd most likely dress up as Spongebob, the costume he'd worn since he was 9. I couldn't wait for him to come and meet Ginny's friends too. They always felt like our protective older sisters and always gave us advice. Max announced a few nights ago she and Abby we're together, but had to secretly date as Aria and Abby's dad didn't want them together, and would apparently rage if he heard. So they'd only trusted a few people with their precious secret. I don't think Abby ever looked so... jovial. I had learnt that happiness was everything: it was the rain, the wind, and the present moment. It was not giving a care In the world, it was your soul being soothed as you forgot about how strange your mother had gotten and you just had a good time with your friends. But happiness was pain too. It also meant letting go. And happiness for me was the three girls who were now manically dancing around the room with me, singing songs off beat at the top of their lungs.
