Chapter Thirteen

"The original King was my grandfather. The new one is my cousin."

Everything fell silent after I said that, I swear even the woods and all the animals went quiet. Max was staring at me with a blank face, I couldn't tell what he was thinking. Not even through the mate bond, him and his wolf shut us out. What felt like hours but was probably only minutes he finally said something.

"Well this certainly changes things..." He said quietly. His eyes not meeting mine.

"A-are you going to reject me?" I asked stuttering. I actually stuttered, I never stutter.

"No I'm not. But you do know he needs to be stopped right?"

"Yes I know he does, and I will be the one to stop it."

"How? What is your plan and how will I know that you won't hesitate?"

"I never hesitate." I said plainly, I'm insulted he even suggested that. "I have a plan that has been set in motion for years." No one knows what I did not even Tobias. Only Star and the Moon Goddess know what I did.

"What is it?" He asked pressing for more information.

"I can't tell you, it's better for no one to know. Not you or Tobias." If this information fell into the wrong hands the plan will fall to pieces.

"What is so bad that not even Tobias know about it? We are mates we're supposed to trust each other! Not keep secrets!" He was starting to raise his voice towards the end.

"This is the only secret I'm keeping! I have told you everything else! You don't know how hard it is for me to open up to people. Tobias is my most trusted friend I have known him for years and not even he knows everything about me. I haven't even known you for that long and you know almost as much as he does! I am the Rogue Alpha, I am supposed to be feared by all and trust no one." I ranted to him, I felt like I wanted to cry. How could he not see that I do trust him but it's hard to open up sometimes. I'm keeping this from him in case things go south.

"I'm sorry... I didn't think about that. I can't even imagine how hard it is for you."

"No you can't. You don't even know that you're in my most sacred place. Only Tobias and the little girl know about this place."

"Little girl? What little girl?" He asked confused.

"Her name is Cassie, I think you might remember her from when your pack surrounded me with her. I feel oddly protective of her, more so then any other wolf including you." I say trying to explain.

"Oh! That is Cassie Ellwood, she is an orphan but my Alpha took her in. Well the Luna did, she is human and felt bad for Cassie."

"The Luna is human? Who is she?" I asked curious if I have met her.

"Sara, she works at the diner."

"Oh! I remember her, she is so nice."

"Yes she is, but back to Cassie. What do you mean you feel protective over her?"

"I'm not sure how to explain it, I feel like she is someone special like she is destined for something but I don't know what it is. Not even Star knows what it is. If you don't mind me asking, what is her back story."

"That's odd... her story is that her and her family got stuck inside their house while it was on fire. Her entire family died except her, she came out untouched like she wasn't even in the fire. It's a miracle. And the crazy part is, she was only a baby."

I looked at him shock, that is impossible. How could a baby survive a fire?!

"Do you know how the fire started?" I asked.

"No one knows how. It's like it started out of no where, one second everything was fine the next there was a huge fire! There are reports saying people heard them screaming and banging on the windows but no one could break through until the fire died down."

"Wow... that sounds like a horror story." I said shocked. Max nodded his head looking down. Suddenly I heard someone running towards the opening and a wolf came bursting in. It was Tobias.

"Is everything ok?" I asked him opening the link up.

"No, the wolves they're under attack and the group is much larger this time. We are still healing from the previous attack."

Shit! I forgot about that. I rushed out of the cave with Tobias and Max hot on my tail. When we finally reached no mans land all I saw was bloodshed, wolves fighting left and right. I couldn't tell who the other wolves are, they don't look like the belong to a pack. Then I saw him. Rex. He was standing proudly off to the side in a pure black wolf, he had a she-wolf next to him. She was small and had a dirty blonde fur color. Then there were four wolves guarding him, attacking any who got too close. I immediately let out a loud howl indicating that I was joining the fight. Rex and the she-wolf both snapped their heads to me, so did the wolves fighting. My rogues took the opportunity to get the upper hand. I growled and ran towards Rex, an ambush like this? The she-wolf slowly backed away as she saw me coming and disappeared into the woods by the time I got close. A couple of rogues saw where I was heading and distracted Rex's guards for me, so did Tobias and Max.

"Rex! End this nonsense!" I growled getting into fighting position and he did the same. For decades the women in my family were at war with the men. My grandfather didn't like what my grandmother was doing and started pulling rogues from her side to rally against her, then my uncle took over when he passed and now my cousin. They don't agree with how we see things, they want an army and to take over the Council. He is what the Council should be afraid of not us.

"Never! Little cousin just submit to me, become a member of my pack. With you under my rule I will become unstoppable." He growled out, he was always so blood thirsty, just like my uncle. He died a couple years ago, reasons unknown to most. Of course I know how, but only one other wolf does. While I was thinking he attacked and bit my neck making me whimper out. Damn I'm losing my touch. I immediately kicked him making him let go of me and I went for his stomach, a little birdie told me he had a fresh wound there. As I bit that he let out a loud howl I took that chance to go for the kill when suddenly I was knocked over by the she-wolf from earlier. She growled at me but she had a glint in her eyes, she didn't want to attack me. I growled at her making her flinch but she stood protectively over Rex.

"Ha! I knew this slut would come in handy." Rex said as he leaned forward and licked her back leg in a rewarding way. She relaxed and purred.

"That's disturbing." Star chimed in and I nodded in agreement.

"Why are you protecting him?" I asked her opening the link to her.

"Because, he is my mate." She said looking at me with apologetic eyes.

Well... this was not apart of the plan.

I left some foreshadowing in there hehe did anyone catch that? Any ideas on what I'm planning? And speaking of plans what plan is Skyler's plan? How does it involve this mysterious she-wolf? Stay tuned to find out!
