📘 The Promise of Elvensdom

Once a great nation of magical beings, the elves were a race of people that had existed alongside humans for as long as time could remember. The friendly relations and habitual coexistence provided a very healthy community, as the more magically gifted elves helped their less savvy counterparts with the cultivation of said magic.

But as naturally as love and friendship came, so did war and hate. And eventually, that relationship had become all of that. War and hate. The humans began to hold disdain towards the elves, a burning flame born of jealousy and distrust. This was the beginning of Neverland's first war.

Though the elves and humans were the most prominent of the intelligent races, there had been others who had secluded themselves away from the industrialized society the two had built. The dwarves were a magicless race who lived in the cold mountainous tundra of Dragonspine. They took no part in the feudal affairs of wizardry and witchcraft, living hard, honest lives in a never-ending storm. Contrasting the dwarves, the centaurs and fauna people of Neverland's lush forests were rather interested in these mortal affairs. Though living beings, the forest people are somewhat immortal in a way. As long as the grass is green, their hearts will beat. The protectors of the forest. Opposite the land, is the sea. The merpeople inhabited Neverland's sapphire blue oceans and lived similarly to the fauna people. They lived for the sea as a centaur would live for the forest.

As you should already know, magic can usually be classified in three main classes. Hydro, Dendro, and Pyro. During the time of the elves, magic wasn't so simple. Spells weren't given labels or performed to complete a single task. Magic was magic. A horrifyingly pure form of power. And the fact that some beings could meld it more efficiently than others was the stirring pot for a fight. Leaders between the warring nations had started to rise. Ratri, a human general had taken charge of the human's war efforts, spurring for a rebellion in an elf dominated society. And Minerva, an elven vigilante, who would save captive elves from the human's imprisonment.

Though the elves were more intelligent, and severely more powerful, they were just simply outnumbered by the human's armies. The fauna people had chosen to side with the humans, fueled by a distaste for the elves need to explore the unknown, destroying the forest in their quest for knowledge. The merpeople were uninvolved in what came to be known as The War of Elvensdom.

Days became weeks. Weeks into months, months into years and eventually decades. Both sides began to suffer heavy casualties, and the destruction of the land had become far larger than what anyone had perceived. A destroyed landscape led to the dwindling population of the fauna people, species such as fairies, kappas, twiglings, and many others nearing or going completely extinct. This war must end. And both parties agreed on that.

As I had written before, magic was different. More difficult, more vague. It's difficult to put into words the spells and intentions they had when creating the first "blood oath". At the top of Mt. Dragonspine, the heads of both the humans and elves willingly shed blood to create a compromise. Born of this Promise was a ruby, colored crimson red just like blood that was spilled to create it. The gemstone contained a harbinging amount of pure magical energy. If handled incorrectly, it's detonation could scar the face of the very earth we live on. The dwarves, reluctant to participate were swayed by the amount of treasure both parties offered in order to officiate the ceremony on an October 31st thousands and thousands of years ago. The master blacksmiths had set the fire of a runt in a chilling band of Dragonspine white steel, harvested from underneath the fresh corpse of a cryo regisvine. After that day, the Promise of Elvensdom was never seen again, said to have been buried and protected by a very long line of dwarf guardians.
