Two boys have been in my room.

Norman, and Ray. And I knew those two well.

Never in my living life had I thought I'd allow a stranger- well, not a stranger. Nigel. Into my dorm. Yeah, that's right. Asshole, gossipy, male mean girl equivalent Nigel, is sitting on my bed treating my cheek.

His glare was fixated on the purple mark, muttering something about not remembering the correct incantation for a soothing spell. "You're incredibly stupid." He said, directed towards me. Ugh, this- this asshole! I clicked my tongue, batting his hand away. I didn't want to be healed if it meant endless nagging from the person that least qualified to do that. He let his hand fall to the bed, as I hissed a response.

"Yeah, I'm stupid for being polite and waiting for you to exit."

"No, you're stupid for standing so close to a god damn door!"

"Oh please, you swung it open like you wanted to kill someone."

He scoffed. "You're alive, aren't you? If I wanted someone dead, I'd get the job done. Sit down, girlie."

I cringed, shifting farther away from his still body. "Don't call me that."

Nigel chuckled, pulling his hat off. "Would you rather bitch?"

There was no winning with this guy. He's annoying. He's rude. And I can find absolutely no redeeming qualities in this boy. "Why are you here anyways? Why did you go out looking for me?" Suddenly, the spunky boy's fiery attitude cooled down. He went pale, fiddling with the wooden parts of his cap. "I wanted to ask you if you'd taken up on her offer."

What? What is he talking about? Who's offer?

He read the confusion on my face quite easily, some life returning to his grief stricken face. Something important must have happened. And I felt a familiar sense of dread settle in the pt of my stomach.

"Isabella. She did- She did ask you... that thing, right?"

"What- What thing? I'm not failing any classes. I went to go see her casually, to ask about something."

Nigel grimaced. "I'm not failing any classes either, y/n."

Then it hit me.

Isabella... She'd... lied to me? What cover up was this for? Why did she lie about the reason Nigel was in her office?

A fiery boy with a water affinity.

"Nigel. Don't tell me-" "I'm an elf."

I gulped nervously. The blond boy brushed back his messy hair, covering his ears very well. They were pointed, truly showing the mark of an elf.

"Is that why you wear a hat?" I asked, reaching out to touch them. He allowed it, redirecting his glare to my side, the slightest shade of pink washing over his cheeks. "Yeah. Glamours take far too much energy to keep up. If I had to use a glamour for the eight hours I was in social situations, I'd die from exhaustion."

I know what he meant.

Once, for a dendro test, Professor Lucas had us channel a shield for the whole two hours of his class. Norman nearly passed out, and Emma was barely able to walk. Though I was tired too, it was probably nothing compared to a human's magic capacity.

I pinched the tips of his ears, Nigel wincing. "Are you a pureblood?" I whispered, finally pulling my hands back. He shook his head yes, but didn't respond. "Are you going to tell me about them?" The blue eyes boy shook his head no. "I don't want to talk about my parents."

I could assume why. They were either dead, or didn't want him. But Nigel was an elf, so probably the latter of the two.

I touched his knee, giving him a gentle smile. "My parents were killed five years ago. I don't remember why, or who did it. But I miss them a lot, y'know?"

Nigel seemed a bit unamused at that. "A pureblood can smell another from a mile away. Elves can do that, y'know. Track their own kind. I thought you were plotting something. Since you were close with that weirdo bangs kid."

I snickered. "Weirdo bangs? Are you talking about Ray?"

The boy clicked his tongue. "Ray, schmay. I don't give a fuck what his name is. All I know is that he's that bitch of a principle's ugly kid."

He seemed to really dislike that bloodline. "Why do you hate them so much? What did Headmistress or Ray ever do to you?"

Nigel's eyes widened for just a second. He seemed perplexed. "Don't you know, y/n? Isabella- That damned woman- She works for the Magical High Committee. She's one of those sick elves hunting others of her kind. And that kid of hers, Cyclops boy. He's her dog."

I couldn't believe the words I was hearing.

Isabella? An elf hunter?

Ray, her assistant?

Well, in actuality, it doesn't seem too far fetched. I've already heard tales of elves hunting others for brownie points with the government. My father has done that too. But Isabella- What was her goal? What was she getting out of this? And Ray? What part does he play?

A warm hand flicked my forehead. Nigel glared at me. "Listen to me closely, dumbass." I nodded my head diligently. His words and his fingers hurt like hell. "Stay away from that kid. He's bad news. I know you aren't now, so I'll let you in on my theory. Isabella? She's not stupid. I'm sure she's aiming for something- And it's what she offered me."

I held my breath, his pause strangely dramatic.

"The first forbidden spell- Resurrection. To bring back a loved one from the dead. That's what I was offered."
