I placed Ray's breakfast on my desk, throwing his wrinkled clothes onto his still body. "Wake up, stupid. I got you an apple. And a muffin. And milk." He mumbled back something incoherent, instead shifting further into my blanket. I guess my bed was a lot comfier than his, because it was unlike Ray to sleep in. "You know it's almost lunchtime, right?" "Mhm," he replied, but refused to move. I sat by his feet, punching the lump that was his legs. "Last night was crazy, right? Like, really, really... crazy. For everyone." A sigh escaped my lips before I could stop it, Zack's painful words echoing in my head. He wasn't wrong. I am a bitch. I only wanted to get closer to him because I liked him. And now because I wasn't honest- I'd lost one of my best friends. And maybe it's my fault Oliver and Zack weren't getting along now as well. "Norman and Emma argued. But I think they're over it. Oliver and Zack argued. And Oliver stayed over with the two last night. You're here for some reason, and Zack's alone. The complete opposite of how last night should have ended." Ray shuffled around in the blanket. I wasn't completely sure if he was listening or not, but I'll pretend he is. "Hey, Ray. Thank you. For being here. As creepy as it is, you being shirtless and all. I don't know what I would've done if you weren't here." "Probably go to sleep with your makeup on." His voice replied, very low and groggy. "You're awake?" "Not for long. I have a headache." "Thanks again, for making sure I didn't go to bed a complete mess." "Don't thank me. It was necessary. Your face is your only redeeming quality, idiot. If boys knew how much of a dumbass you were they'd run." I wasn't sure if that was a compliment or insult, but if it was coming from Ray, it was probably both. "Yeah, okay stupid. I'm gonna head out for a bit, don't lock the door when you leave. I don't know where the hell my keys are." The black haired boy's sleepy face poked out from the blanket, giving me a confused glance. "Why do you need your keys? You have your wand." Yeah, I wasn't really sure about that one. And I didn't feel like explaining today's events over top of last night's mess. "Just- Just don't lock it. I'm going now."

I slowly walked towards the staircase, the familiar feeling of the wooden double doors sending a chill down my spine. I was so excited yesterday. And today? All I'm filled with is sadness, confusion, anger, and regret. I tried to keep my gaze from falling to my feet, where my usual black sneakers replaced the red stilettos I'd worn for the most special night of my life. I felt like a princess. And now, I feel like trash. I speed walked my way past the dining room. I didn't know where the hell Zack was, but I hope it wasn't anywhere near me. How would I face him? How would he face me? I just- I didn't want to think about it. After a little creeping, hiding, and speed walking, I arrived at my destination. Professor Lucas' office. If anyone would have an explanation for what's happened to my wand, it would be him.

I knocked on the closed darkwood door, the golden embellishments of the little sign and hinges seeming a bit duller than usual. Maybe it was my mood. "Come in!" I heard his friendly voice reply. I quickly jumped inside the room, greeting my mentor. "What brings you to my office on a Sunday, y/n?" He chuckled, tapping his wand so that a chair was pulled out for me. I thanked him sheepishly, taking a seat on the opposite side of the desk. "I don't mean to sound rude or anything, Professor. But I think something's wrong with my wand. Here," I placed my small obsidian staff on the table, pointing at the Dragonspine steel band grip. "You said this was The Promise of Elvensdom, right sir? And the Headmistress talked about it yesterday, and when I woke up it had changed color. A- Actually, I'm not sure when this happened I just- I just noticed it today, and- and-" I found myself getting more and more nervous. Everything was starting to hit like a ton of bricks. The "thing" on my wand that I'd never really paid any attention to was an ancient relic from our history! It was important! And I've defiled it! I broke the Promise of Elvensdom! Professor Lucas shushed me with a finger. His golden yellow eyes were wide open, staring at the black gemstone smack dab in the center of the white steel. "Can you... Can you still perform magic with this, y/n? Does the wand work?" I was shocked. Though the professor seemed agitated, it looked more of confusion, frustration and fear. Had I done something terribly wrong? "I- I don't know, sir. That's why I came here. I was afraid that this thing might explode the moment I wanted to cast a blink or grab a book." The instructor grimaced, taking the wand in his right hand. "It's not unusual for wands to respond poorly to users that aren't their chosen masters. But y/n, I can't sense anything in your wand. It's like it's died. I can't even cast an ignit, or a gramotos. Could you just... try that? I'll take responsibility for any explosions, I promise." I gulped nervously, my trembling hand taking the wand. He was right. The thing in my grasp felt different, foreign, not like the wand I'd had before. But as for magic... All I could feel was power. Whatever had changed in the wand made it an infinite well of strength. "Ignit." I whispered, and a blue flame flickered at the top of my wand. Professor Lucas immediately grabbed the staff back, a panicked look burned onto his face. "What- How- How did you do that?" I don't feel so good. "I- I don't know. I don't know, Professor." He took a shaky breath, returning the wand to me. "For some reason, I feel like it would be more dangerous if I with me than it would be with you. Just- Just be careful with that, y/n. And if something feels off with the wand, go to the headmistress immediately. What you just did- that blue fire- no wizard should ever do that. Ever."
