"So... What's Zack's type?"
"Dendro."
"Not his affinity, stupid! His type of girl!" I thoughtfully tapped my chin. "But that is good to know... Maybe I'll try to listen to Professor Lucas from now on, pick up some dendro spells, hehe." Ray turned the page to his book, giving me an unamused glance. Something about his ignorant, iongiveafuckityfuck attitude bothered me. "Good idea. If you stay awake you'll learn. You can sleep at night, on a bed, which is what you should be doing." I rolled my eyes, scanning my own textbook's pages lightly. "Thanks, captain obvious." A few minutes passed, an awkward silence settling between the two of us. Maybe it was better that way, because I still hated him for abandoning me five years ago. And I was only tolerating him now because I needed a pyro credit and to get a chance with the boy I liked. Ah, it feels so much better to admit it.
A grin slipped onto my face, recalling Norman and Emma's shocked expressions. "Guys, I think I like Zack." The white haired boy had spit out his water, and the green eyed girl had choked on a mouthful of pasta. "I was- gak- joking that time, y/n!" She spit her food out, staring at me with a small frown. "He's a jock! He's a quarterback! He dates cheerleaders! How did this even happen?" "Well, yesterday, I bumped into him on my way to tutoring and he was really really nice. He was funny, easy to talk to, and holy shit he's hot." Norman rubbed his temples, sighing deeply. "We've lost another one."
I was snapped out of my daydream by Ray packing up his things. I slammed my book shut, standing up. "W- Where are you going? We haven't even done anything, you were studying your own shit!" His messy black hair covered his left eye, only the right one meeting my perplexed gaze. "That's because I'm not tutoring you today. He is. I have a meeting with the headmaster and then some other things." He? Who's he? Ray noticed my confusion and nodded his head. A small smirk had turned the corners of his lips upwards, the boy swinging his black backpack over his shoulder. "Thanks again, Zack. I owe you one." I felt my face turn bright red, a large warm hand gently grabbing my shoulder. "So, y/n, ready for some lessons from sensei Zack?" God, I hope he can't hear my heart beating. It's literally going to break out of my chest at this point. "Y- Yessir!" I yelped, sitting back down. Zack smiled, pulling up a chair next to mine, his right leg propped up comfortably next to my left. "I'm not as smart as Ray, so be patient with me, okay?" I nodded vigorously, hoping he wouldn't notice my tomato red face either.
"And then- And then he was like, 'Are you ready for lessons from sensei Zack?' And I was like fuck yeah, teach me anything dad!" Norman had gotten used to slapping his forehead in pure embarrassment and disappointment, and today was a true test of patience. he sighed exasperatedly. "D- Don't call him that. Stop yourself." On the other hand, Emma, who was listening to my tale excitedly, looked like a puppy waiting for a treat. "Norman, stop being a killjoy, she's just expressing her love for daddy Zack." "Not- Not you too, Emma." "Just look at him, Norman. Look at that chiseled jawline. Look at those perfectly toned arms. And the scar, ooh, baby, that scar." She glanced at me, winking mischievously. "Yeah, I like that scar." I smirked, nudging her shoulder. "And Ray set that up? Your unofficial date?" I took my own mouthful of pasta, nodding in response. Hehe, that's a great way to think about it. An unofficial date with Zack! "Have you two... resolved your issues?" How was I supposed to answer this? Ray and I... We haven't really been getting along, but we haven't thrown hands either. He was definitely annoying, but I needed him. I wasn't trying to repeat eleventh year or lose Zack to the next pretty girl with bigger boobs than me. "I don't know... I've been trying to ignore the past for the most part. He's just my tutor as far as I'm concerned." "A tutor you've involved in your love life, y/n." Norman wiped my cheek with a tissue, some tomato sauce smeared underneath my chin. I noticed Emma's pout in the corner of my eye. She was probably wishing she were me right now. "Isn't that such a big change? From him being completely absent in your life to being such a big part of it? From a stranger to your best friend in a matter of days!" I rolled my eyes, pushing his hand away. "We're not best friends. We're not even friends." Norman's ocean blue eyes were a little cold, sending shivers down my spine. "Well, it'll go one way or another, and it'll be complete chaos."
