From then on, there was always something there between Oralie and Kenric. A spark, waiting to be ignited. A spark that turned into glaring fire. But a fire that had to be hidden. A fire they had tried countless times to put out. A fire that wouldn't stop burning. But, the two councillors never showed their affection for each other. They remained strictly professional. Or as professional as one could be. But there were little things. Little things that Kenric showed her that told her he still loved her. When he would promote her ideas on the council. Subtle winks and smiles. She could feel it too. She could feel how he felt towards her. Even when she tried to push it away. Although she tried her best to ignore her feelings, they were always there. Lingering in the air. Waiting for her to acknowledge them. But she never did. She pushed them away, every single time. She had daydreamed about life with Kenric. But she had her spot on the council, and if he wasn't stepping down, neither was she. Everything was going well. No one knew. Of course, people had their suspicions, but they were never confirmed. Strictly professional. She had to remind herself every day. They were friends, and nothing more, even though her heart said otherwise. But she knew by the way he looked at her. A way he had never looked at anyone else, and it made her feel special. Sure, she was ignoring it, but in the end it was still there. There for whenever she was ready to acknowledge it. But she was never ready, and she doubted she ever would be. But for now, all she could was hope. Hope that when she was ready, the spark would still be there, ready for her to light it into a flaming inferno.
