CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO.

THE WINTER FORMAL was coming sooner and sooner the more Evee looked at the clock. Frankly, she hadn't thought of the dance very much. It wasn't that she hated dances, it was more that with her current circumstances, going to a formal seemed ridiculous. Even so, she was being forced to go to the mall with Lydia and Allison after school.

After their small conversation in the woods, that really said nothing, Lydia seemed to stop ignoring girl. Although she wouldn't tell her why, the way Lydia talked to the girl currently, seemed as if they had a talk. When, frankly, Lydia brushed her problem away. Evee knew the Martin girl would explain one day. The question was when that day would come. And the only thing Allison really said after the day in the woods was about 'needing to talk at the mall.'

Currently, though, she was more focused on the bell ringing through one of her most boring classes. Her attention separating from the lecture and over to the clock, 2:59, was only brought away to the desk behind her when she heard the whisper.

"Are you going to the dance Friday?"

Turning her head away from the clock and over to Boyd, Evee began,"If I don't fall asleep when I get home Friday, probably. You?"

"Yeah," Boyd couldn't hide the smile on his face as Evee quickly noticed his expression.

Smirking back to the boy, Evee asked,"You're really excited, aren't you?"

"Definitely," Boyd's reply was exact timing with the ringing of the bell as the two went on their own way to get home. For Evee, though, it was a short stop home and then to meet Lydia and Allison to pick out dresses for the dance.

A small part of Evee hoped she'd really sleep through her alarm on Friday.

"NOTHING'S wrong I just have a lot on my mind," Allison explained, her brunette and strawberry blonde friend stepping on the escalator alongside her. Again, the Argent girls mood seemed to change. In the woods it was anger but today she just seemed saddened about something she wasn't talking about. Evee's eyes lingered over to Allison seeing through her lie, the Argent girl noticed the stare and just looked back at the girl still not being able to truly hide the persistent sadness.

"You could smile, at least," Lydia inputted, pulling Allison eyes that lingered over to Evee,"Every heard of the saying,'Never frown. Someone could be falling in love with your smile," when Allison silently chuckled noting how ridiculous that sound, Lydia turned her head over to Allison,"Smile, Allison. I'm buying you a dress," the Martin girls eyes then went back over to Evee,"And, E, can you at least try to act like you want to be here? You are most definitely going to the dance and don't try and sleep through it. Don't forget I have your number."
