Round 8 - Chapter 7 - A Rosy Road Trip

Y/N'S POV

We were right now driving through the open countryside, about to enter another town soon. I decided to let Ruby plan the route, who did so very happily. The route she drew up went through several locations we've never been to before, several towns and cities that while looking normal might provide us with unique and great experiences.

I look away from the road to Ruby when she tapped me on the shoulder, she was looking past me at something else ahead on the other side of the road.

Ruby: "Oh that looks interesting, Y/N could you stop here please?"

Y/N: "Sure."

Looking over I could see a group of people standing around as a car was driving on an empty lot, slowly I stop on the side of the road. Ruby and I quickly crossed the street to the lot, none of the people noticing us walking up.

Ruby: "Excuse me, what are you all doing with that car?" She asks a person in a lab coat.

Ruby squealed when the person around, it turned out to be Kali, an old friend of ours.

Kali: "Y/N, Ruby, what a surprise!" She says with a smile.

She hugged both of us tightly, Ruby looking mighty excited to see her again.

Kali: "I'm with my team right now testing a new car we're developing." She says as she points at the other people.

Right as she finished talking a low-pitched whining noise could be heard from behind Kali, it was the car as it stopped beside her. The engine sounds highly unusual but significantly quieter than the average car, other-worldly as well.

Ruby: "I thought your work had you developing computers?"

Kali: "Well yes but I and my team wanted to do bigger and more interesting projects, and developing this car has still a lot to do with computers."

Y/N: "Work aside, how have you been?"

Kali: "Oh I've been great, not a lot has been going on though."

Ruby: "That's surprising coming from you Ms. Adventrous." She jokes making Kali laugh.

Kali: "Good timing cus we just finished for the day, all the tests went well."

Y/N: "Tha-"

Ruby: "Could you give us a tour of the area!?!" She blurts out as she cut me off.

Kali: "Sure I would love to, it would also give us a chance to catch up."

Ruby: "Awesome, our road trip is off to an amazing start!"

Kali: "Oh so you're traveling? if you need it we have an empty place that you two could stay at for the week or so."

Y/N: "Are you sure? we wouldn't want to intrude."

Kali: "Nonsense, you two are my friends!"

TIMESKIP - 5 HOURS LATER

When Kali said that she had an open place for us to live in for the week or so she didn't just mean a room, she meant an entire multiple-story apartment! I tried to deny it as this was way bigger and luxurious than we needed, but Kali didn't listen, insisting on it as the corporate is paying for it all, the other apartments taken up by her and the rest of her development team.

Ruby meanwhile was also trying to deny it, but as her husband, I could tell that she wasn't really trying. She almost instantly put our bags into the apartment and unpacked some of it, more focused on seeing more of the area and hanging out with Kali.

Now we've come back to the apartment late, I was tired as all hell while Ruby wanted me to join her as she was going out drinking with Kali.

Ruby: "Come on please!" She begs.

Y/N: "Sorry Ruby, but I'm really tired and I don't really feel like drinking right now."

Ruby: "Okay...I can't tell you when I'll be back though..."

Y/N: "That's okay, just enjoy yourself and have some fun okay?"

Ruby: "Don't have to tell me twice!"

She gives me a big mighty kiss on the lips before leaving, giving me a wink before closing the door.

Tired I walk upstairs till I notice that I still had my coat and shoes on, being lazy I just pull my shoes off here and keep the coat on as a blanket as I threw myself on the bed.

I take my book from my nightstand and start reading, the novel being about a woman who joins a man on a journey around the world. I really like the book as the woman in it reminds me of Ruby, so I usually just replace the character's name with her, cheesy I know, but I like it all the same.

TIMESKIP

Unfortunately, my body has the tendency to not let me sleep, even when I'm really tired, now I've gotten further in the book by several chapters, and only now are my eyes starting to close. In order to not crumple any pages or drop the book I put it away and turn off the lights, leaning back in the nice comfy book.

I was just about to fall asleep when I heard a weird noise from downstairs, I listen for a second....and there it is again!
