TEN:
Tuesday, January 17th
9:30 PMI was sitting on the edge of the hotel bed, arms crossed, and scowling at Klaus who stood in front of the hotel door surrounded by our packed bags. I got all our stuff together so we could go home to the compound. But the whole time he refused to talk about the whole idea him seeing Hayley in the bayou and me going to Arkansas.
"Danielle, let's go," Klaus said, lifting his large duffel bag off the ground and tossing it over his shoulder with ease. "Why aren't you moving?"
"Because we need to talk."
"Must we always do this?" He sighed, pulling out the retracted handle on my suitcase. He was ready to go. That much was beyond clear.
"Do what?" I scoffed. "Talk?"
"Argue."
"That's what happens when two people disagree."
"You do know that I can and I will carry you out of here kicking and screaming if need be," he warned.
"This is exactly why we argue," I stated. "We don't discuss anything. You try to make my decisions for me, I get upset, we fight, we make up, and one of us gets our way."
"Exactly. We know all the steps it takes to get there. Let's skip them. And you just do as I say for once."
"No," I disagreed, holding back a laugh of disbelief. My boyfriend was impossible sometimes. "I'm not driving six hours alone."
"This is really not up for discussion, Danielle. Finn is still out there. Hungry vampires may still be lurking because we have no idea where they are. So you're not safe, hence going to a safe house," he broke it down for me. His tone was semi-calm due to hiding his frustration but I still didn't appreciate the way he was 'dumbing it down' for me like I was a small child.
"And I said that we needed to talk," I quipped, using the same faux peaceful voice. In due time one of us was going to snap and yell something if we kept this up. "I want to be with you. The safest place in the world is by your side. Isn't that what you've always told me."
"Usually, yes. But right now anywhere out of New Orleans is safer. You have to understand that," he sighed, exasperated. And we're just getting started.
"Okay, I get that. You're probably right. But that's true most days and yet you let me be with you. I thought that's what we both preferred."
"Usually, yes, but–"
"And do you realize that for six hours I'm going to be all alone, unsupervised, driving windy road? Anything could happen to me."
"Like what?" He snorted, dropping his duffel bag onto the ground.
"I could get lost, have an accident, run out of gas, get a flat tire, Finn could find me or even follow me."
"You have a GPS. I'm trusting you can drive six hours without crashing. I know for a fact you're smart enough to fill your gas tank. And your dad told me he prepared you well for emergencies, including showing you how to change a tire," he smirked at me. "Lastly, you'll be leaving first thing in the morning before Finn has any idea I'm sending you away because I'll be off the radar as well, in the bayou."
"Why can't I go with you?" I whined.
"Wouldn't you rather be with Hope?" He asked in return.
I pouted, "Yes." I really would. I craved to hug that baby girl and kiss her chubby cheeks. I wanted to dress her up and read her all the baby books I ordered to the safe house already.
