NINTEEN:

Sunday, February 19th
5:55 PM

Hayley and I stared at each other for moment. She was crossing her arms and pursing her lips, staring off to the left of her instead of at me. I raised my brows in disbelief, waiting for her to say something. "What do you want me to say, Dani?" Hayley huffed, under breath.

"We don't have time for talking, Dani. Sorry, we have a friend, your boyfriend killed, to bury. Isn't that enough reason for us to want to get away from that bloodsucking, and life-sucking family?" Jackson chimed in.

"Is anyone talking to you?!"I roared. "No! So why don't you bury your body and shut the hell up?"

"Danielle," Elijah said softly.

"Klaus killed Aiden!" Hayley yelled at me, "Dani, you're in love with a murderer! If you want to have his kids and raise them in his world. Fine, but you cannot–"

"Klaus didn't kill Aiden! And I don't appreciate your husband accusing him," I cut Hayley off.

"He admitted it!" Hayley scoffed. "Are you that blind? You love him so much you don't listen to reason or simple fact or science that this is his normal behavior?"

"He didn't admit it. Jackson accused him for no good reason. My innocent lover responded, 'so what if I did?' Then like you said, he made a comment that aligned with his quote on quote normal behavior. He said anyone who crossed him could end up dead. That's all. Which proves nothing at all!" I retorted.

"Okay, legally blonde, if you say so," one of the wolves sneered.

Hayley looked at me, "You don't know for a fact Klaus didn't–"

"I do know," I cut her off, staring at her as seriously as possible. "He didn't do it."

"We don't believe you," Jackson said through clenched teeth.

"Can we speak alone?" I asked, rolling my eyes at Jackson and looking at the woman who was supposed to be my friend.

"Give us some space," Hayley ordered.

The wolves scattered, taking Aiden's body elsewhere. Probably to start making preparations. "You cannot leave. Not with Hope," I told her, begging her to listen. To stay. "And you were just going to leave? Were you even going to say goodbye? Were you going to give me a heads up? Were you planning to ever come back? Are we even really friends?" I interrogated, my heart racing as all the pain and hurt hit me.

"Of course we are, Dani! But I have to do what's best for Hope," Hayley retorted, pleading with me to understand.

"In what reality is Hope best off without her dad? The unconditional love of the rest of the Mikaelsons?"

Hayley sighed, "He killed Aiden. Who was playing both sides, just to please Klaus which meant betraying his pack, and was here to help keep Hope safe. In what reality is he not a monster?"

I shook my head, "He is a monster," I shrugged then. "So what? You knew he was a monster before you slept with him. I knew he was a monster before I fell in love with him. Elijah, Rebekah, Marcel, and Cami–your other friends know he's a monster. But none of them stray or leave his side. He's more than a hybrid, more than the mistakes he's made, and the cruel things he's done in the past."

"And so what? I'm supposed to think he's changed?" She asked, tone softer. She wasn't on the offense now. Her eyes glazed over as well. She didn't want to do this, to hurt him or me or anyone else. And I needed her to trust that instinct. Leaving would be a terrible mistake. One she and I both know, Klaus won't forgive easily or for a long, long while, which would cost her something tremendously painful. Because like we've agreed. He is, or can be a monster.
