FOURTEEN:
Friday, January 27th
10:30 AMI rolled my eyes, answering my phone while walking to my car. Klaus was calling, again, after I missed his last five calls. "Hi, baby," I answered.
"Where are you?" He asked.
"Leaving my pilates class," I answered. "I'm not going to be late or miss your family brunch, okay? I'm walking to my car now. I'll be there in fifteen minutes."
"So not enough time to shower?" He sighed.
"My belly button's showing," I teased, smiling to myself.
"You're right, you look good in everything and nothing," he replied. "Hurry home."
"Because you miss me?"
"No, because we have plans."
"You're an asshole," I scowled. "Say you miss me."
"I wouldn't have to miss you if you were here. Bye, love."
"Bye."
I hung up the call as I climbed into my car. As expected it took my fifteen minutes to get home. I headed right for the dining room where Klaus was sitting at head of the table, at the end opposite of the doorway. There were plates set for five, at least two dozen unlit candles, and a handful of food dishes.
"You did all of this this while I was at pilates?" I asked, impressed.
Klaus grinned from his place, standing from his seat, "Get togethers are my specialty. Are you really impressed?" He questioned as I met him half way at the side of the table. His hands grabbing hold of my waist while mine held my phone and wallet in one and my keys in the other.
"Yes," I admitted. "But not surprised. I just... I love it. Why don't you do this for just me and you? That would really impress me."
"There you are, finally," Klaus said instead, looking over my head. I looked over my shoulder to Elijah entering the room now in haste and taking off his coat.
"I was delayed," Elijah said.
"Our guess of honor will be here momentarily," Klaus said. Then he kissed my forehead and let my hips go, stepping away from me to lean on the back of his seat at the table.
"Strange, our house is conspicuously absent of our lupine guests," Elijah noted. "I do hope it wasn't on my account."
Klaus chuckled while I took a seat right to the left of him. "I sent Hayley and her poorly groomed husband off to spend the day with their werewolf brethren to test the limits of their new abilities. Leaving me to deal with family business as I see fit," Klaus answered.
"Niklaus, Rebekah's situation has taken a turn. We may need Freya's assistance. So, whatever you are planning here? Don't," Elijah warned, narrowing his eyes on my boyfriend. He was worried about his intentions. And he should be. Klaus was clearly up to no good.
Klaus rolled his eyes, dramatically, "All I'm planning is a simple chat with a long-lost relative. You yourself said to hear her out."
"And you yourself said that would be idiocy."
"Did I?" Klaus smirked in amusement. "Well, it does sound like me. Regardless, on the off-chance Freya has some information that could protect my daughter, I'd prefer she share it on my terms." Klaus then gasped, pointing to his ear, "Ah! I think I hear her now."
A tall, skinny blonde then stood in the doorway. She tilted her head as she smiled at her brothers. "Sister! Well, come in! Come in! Make yourself comfortable," Klaus welcomed her so nice I was sure he was a different person.
