We packed our stuff and headed straight towards the highway. I felt bad making Ram go all this way, but I just can’t wait anymore. I have so much adrenaline inside me, I can’t sleep or wait to get to the highway. I have been waiting since I was little to get out of that death place and make a better life for myself. I was hoping to wait till college, but I know I won’t get into any.

30 minutes later we had to stop for water and I let him sleep 15 minutes. I took care to make sure and wake him up exactly 15 minutes after we drank. He seemed groggy and tired but insisted that we move on. There was only a mile left to go and a few hours till daybreak.

“J can… we… take a… break… please,” Ramsies wheezes.

“Of course,” I say glad he spoke up instead of me even though I’m pretty tired.

“Great, do you mind waking me up again?”

“Yah but I’ll set my alarm for 1 hour, I’m beat to.”

“Sounds good.”

Like that we both fell asleep minutes after.

I woke up to the light of day and my watch beeping. I look over at Ramsies still fast asleep. I stop my alarm and see that we slept around 3am to 8pm. I couldn’t believe my alarm went that whole time without automatically stopping itself. Ramsies is snoring rather loudly. I shake him, but when that doesn’t work I blare Drunk by Ed Sheeran in his ears. He jumps up looking frightened. I can’t help myself but I bust out laughing.

“JASMINE! Don’t ever do that again to me!”

“OK ok,” I laugh.

He rubs his still tired eyes and takes a huge yawn. He looks like a 2 year old when he yawns, the thought making me laugh.

“Why are you laughing?” He asks a hint of annoyance in his voice.

“Of how cute and baby-like you look when you yawn,” I honestly say.

“Great, that will make Delaney like me more,” he mumbles.

“What is this about this Delaney?”

“Oh um, nothing. Shit,” he says his face getting red and turning away.

“You can tell me anything even if you have a crushy. Does baby Rammy have a crush?” I joke.

“Shut up,” he replies holding back laughter.

“See I always know how to cheer you up!”

“Uhu sure.”

“Come on lets eat a granola then head out.”

“Good with me,” replies Ram while taking a deep breath.

I hand him a bar and eat my own. I must admit this isn’t how I imagined leaving my house and family, but at least I am. Finally after 10 minutes Ramsies eats and goes somewhere I can’t see to pee, we start walking again. Ramsies and I don’t talk much which is fine with me. I love the peace and quiet.
