"Yes, yes thank you, and replace the bedding in the fifty-sixth guest bedroom the Duke's daughter is allergic to grouse feather." I handed one of the staff a piece of paper whilst holding my clipboard in my right arm.
"Hackathrift Pippa the Duchess has arrived,"
"Thank you I will greet her now." My midnight blue heels clicked as I walked towards the main parlor of Buckingham Palace just as the Duchess of Cornwall was being escorted in,
Mind you reader, Camilla was a regular visitor and she was here before I was on the Royal Council, so at times when I was itching with hatred towards her, I knew I had to tolerate her presence, besides it would be unwise to start something nonetheless.
"Your Grace." I bowed slightly and gave her my radiant smile.
"Hackathrift Pippa," She acknowledged, "I saw the announcement on your engagement to the Duke's eldest son and I give you my congratulations."
"Thank you, His Highness is expecting you. Please follow me if you will, Your Grace." I started to walk from the parlor, glancing behind me to see her following although her eyes wandered around the elegant stairs. I turned my eyes back towards the staircase and started to walk up while holding my clipboard. When we made it to the top, I started walking to the room where the Prince of Wales was, until Camilla stopped me.
"Thank you, Pippa, that will be all." The Duchess of Cornwall replied, I had a quizzed look on my face, blinking I nodded.
"Very well," I bowed and left her, although I couldn't shake off an odd feeling that tugged my thoughts in the back of my head. I rubbed my neck as I walked down the stairs and brushed the feeling off. I still had to check the guest quarters as I passed the white drawing-room, I overheard a radio broadcast, I walked closer and saw several staff members crowded around it. I narrowed my eyes slightly and moved away.
"German forces have made a move over the United Kingdom, a few small populated areas were targeted early afternoon-"
I stopped, my blood ran cold at that last sentence. I turned back and listened.
"-About one hundred have been killed and eighty have been wounded." I dropped my clipboard after that last sentence.
Mother...
She could've been in that area, my head kept denying it but I knew the truth. She was and she was either dead or wounded, suddenly my legs slipped from under me and I fell onto the carpet as my world went dark.
Something strong was under my nose, I slowly blinked then realization hit me. I sat up quickly.
"Ssh, easy Hackathrift Pippa, you're alright." Something warm was pressed on my forehead, I blinked again to clear my eyes, I turned my head to see my surroundings. I was in my chambers and I was laying on the lounge chair, a doctor was sitting beside me, taking my pulse.
"What happened?" I asked, the doctor handed me some water.
"You passed out, nothing serious. Perhaps the stress has been getting to you." The doctor replied taking back the glass. My eyes wandered up until I saw the familiar blonde hair of Prince William who was standing beside me.
"Just take it easy for the rest of the evening Hackathrift Pippa." The doctor got up and bowed,
"Your Royal Highness." She walked away and quietly shut the doors.
"Darling what happened?" William asked as he turned back to me.
"Nothing, just stress," I replied getting up from the lounge chair. I heard William sigh deeply and follow me,
"You never just passed out like that before, somethings in your head."
I lowered my head slightly, turning towards him, "German has attacked the United Kingdom and some of Britians populated areas are destroyed, I heard it over the radio."
William blinked as if he was trying to figure out something then he walked closer and pulled me into an embrace.
"I know, I heard it too but don't let these worry you."
The life of my mother was still implanted in the back of my mind but I didn't tell him, but at that moment I knew something had to be done, I knew Hitler wasn't just trying to provoke Britain, he was after my head and he wouldn't stop until he had me.
I had to face this threat and in doing so I had to go into the War and it would either save me or destroy me.
