"Who are you?"

I was petrified with fear, either from the unknown room, or what it was. I didn't know where I was, last I remembered I was in a windmill but now an older man was sitting beside me, I tried to speak, but my throat was dry, the older man turned away, "Emile, get some water for this young lady,"

Out of the corner of my eye, a young girl scrambled from her place towards the water, I blinked, my head pounding, I realized this was the same girl who was carrying the bucket in the windmill, she returned and walked slowly to my bedside, she handed me the water, I looked at it warily and took it before drinking, the cool water was good and I drank it all, I didn't have the strength to set the cup down nor to sit up anymore, I laid down, I was so tired and the cold and the mud started to get through my clothes, the man watched than got to his feet, "Sleep and regain your strength," he offered me a kind smile and walked away, gently leading the young girl, who was Emile away, she looked back at me than towards her grandfather, I closed my eyes but I could hear Emile whispering quietly,

"She reminds me of our Shetan, grandfather,"

"Granddaughter, how can she remind you of a horse?" Emile's grandfather asked,

"Because her hair is brown, almost black and she's quiet, I think she might be our Shetan brought back to us." Emile replied, her grandfather chuckled and I heard no more as I surrendered to sleep.

A few days had passed, I had learned a few things, the older man that watched over me was Emile's grandfather, little Emile lost both her parents when she was three and her grandfather was the only one left of her family, I soon bonded with Emile and grew fond of her, though they knew I was Evelyn, Emile instead called me 'Shetan' who I found out was a black horse they had on their farm, the horse was taken by the German soldiers as they needed more horses.

Though I was assured that the war did not bother them and left them in peace, I still had a lingering fear that I would be found and taken away, but I did not show my fear, instead I spent time with little Emile and helped her grandfather out with chores, I found it enjoyable and sometimes I felt as I was back at the farm with my mother again. But I was a fool to believe that

"C'mon you can do better than that!" Emile called back to me on her horse

I laughed, it was a cloudy morning, though threatening rain, Emile begged me to ride with her and I couldn't say no, we sped around the farm, I urged my dapple grey mare faster, she whinnied  she slowed as I caught up with her,

"I win!" She said happily,

"Yes, perhaps your gelding is faster than my gray mare," I breathed heavily. "Should we go again?" suddenly I heard Emile's grandfather shouting to us,

"The Germans are here, Hide quickly!"

My breath caught, I looked around, my horses ears perked, I looked back at Emile.

"We need to go to the forest, now!"

"But what about my Grandfather? I can't leave him." she pleaded, tears in her eyes, I took her hand.

"He'll be okay, we will come for him when it is safe," I kicked her horse and he sped off in a canter and a gallop, I followed behind into the dense woods and I soon heard gravel and tires behind us, I urged my mare faster until they where behind. Emile and I rode, no words exchanged between us, I wanted her to understand that her grandfather was alright but I couldn't and I let the silence hang between us, Emile suddenly yanked her horses head and started to the end of the forest,

"Emile!" I yelled and followed her, I slowed as we reached a large enclosed area, a gate was at the end.

"We can make a loop and come back for my Grandfather." she said, pointing at the gate, she urged her horse towards it and I reluctantly followed.

Before we could reach it, two German soldiers quickly locked the open gate, fear started in my heart, they had found me, I turned my horse in the other direction, unfortunately. A young but beautiful woman ran over and locked the gate on the other side, she had dark brown hair which was in a french braid and she wore a dark emerald robe with a golden bracelet. She looked as if she was from the country Arabia, which I had learned in my studies. Emile turned her horse the other way, they had to get out! Somehow but they were trapped, there was no way out. A German, who was dressed like a general, started to walk in our direction, with his left hand held up. He was speaking in German, My horse reared as he walked closer but to Emile's dismay, she was calming down. The general walked over and grabbed the side of my horses halter. He then looked up at Emile,

"I am Alejandro, protector of the fatherland and commander of the Nazi army. We've come here to take Evelyn. back to Germany and deliver her to our Kaiser"

"But you can't take her, she belongs here with me and my grandfather", Emile protested, tightening her fingers on the reins.

"Nonsense child, if you are not aware. She is the daughter of Detering, a German soldier. Therefore, she is German property" Without waiting for a reply, Alejandro signaled to the two soldiers who quickly hauled little Emile off her horses back despite Emile's protesting. The woman whom Emile saw earlier, quickly grabbed hold of the lower end of the my horses halter with one hand and ran a hand on my arm with the other. One of the German soldiers let go of Emile and draped a Nazi flag on my back. Emile struggled to get free of the German's grasp, Alejandro moved to Emile, towering over the girl, a smirk on his face.

"I'm sorry, child but we will be taking Evelyn." He motioned with a hand and turned away. The woman who was holding my horses halter glanced over at Emile,

"You'll find another hand for your farm," she said with mock pity. Alejandro spared Emile one last glance then he walked over to the side of the my horse as the woman led me  away. Emile struggled to get away but the Germans were much taller and stronger than her. They dragged little Emile away from me, I fought to get to her but the general put me in restraints. Tears where in my eyes, I watched Emile as she screamed and soon she was out of my sight.
