I didn't wait for either my father or Liam to reply before I started down the bunker, my hand gripped my weapon so tightly my fingers turned white. Behind me I heard my father call out to me but I didn't heed his words.

when I turned into the next hallway, I slowed to quiet my footsteps. Than I stopped when I heard the squeak of a door being shut. I waited with baited breath than I looked around the corner, I saw a Sturmbannführer or one of the Majors outside Hitler's study, guarding the door.

Quietly I slowly loaded my weapon, one bullet through the head, to take one life and not just any life. Someone who ordered countless lives to be killed either in gas chambers or shot, men, women and children.

All dead.

And me, the daughter of a soldier who was deemed a traitor because he just missed his wife and his farm. Was it only because I breathed the same air Hitler did and so was a threat? It didn't matter now, Hitler may have risen to power and took over Germany but he didn't win the war.

No more running, no more hiding, no more waiting and counting the days I had left to live. He wasn't going to take away life. I would end his instead and take down his steel grip on Germany. I clenched my teeth and cocked my weapon, then I rounded the corner. I pushed the guard down to the floor while he wasn't looking,

"What-?" the Guard looked up at me, and fumbled for his revolver. However I was quicker and swiftly knocked him unconscious.

bang

I heard a gunshot, which came from the other side of the door. I got up, weapon in my left hand, then I broke in to Hitler study, my weapon drawn. I slowly looked around the study, until something made me freeze in my tracks.

There sitting upright on the sofa was the body of Adolf Hitler and an unknown woman whom I did not recognize. On the side of his head was a gunshot wound and that only meant one thing. He ended his own life. A thousand emotions were in my head, however my blood boiled.

"I saved this bullet for you, but it seems to me that you beat me to it. You couldn't handle being defeated, I guess that's the cost of having so much power get inside your head. As much as I wanted your life to end by my own hands, at least I know you've lost. Everything and the War and I won. Your reign is over Adolf Hitler and mine has just begun."

Those last words felt as though a giant weight has been lifted off my chest, I was free and I saved the lost ones I loved. It was over, all of it. I heard footsteps, which were coming towards the study, with a last glance over my shoulder at the bodies, I shut the door. And retreated towards the hall, when I rounded the corner Liam and my father where on the other side, upon seeing me, Liam moved my father closer to the wall than he ran over to me and embraced me.

"Evelyn- your alive- oh my gosh. When we heard the gunshot I thought-."

"Liam, it's okay, I'm okay. But the gunshot you heard-was Adolf Hitler ending his life." I replied, Liam moved away from me,

"Your joking, right?" I shook my head

"No Liam, it's not a light topic." Suddenly shouting could be heard in the hallway, "We need to go, now!" I grabbed my fathers hand, Liam finally out of it spoke up.

"I know the way out of the bunker, follow me!"

Minutes later we where making our way across No Mans Land, we managed to get out without anyone noticing minus three soldiers that we had to knock out. Liam was in front, with his weapon drawn and myself leading Zephyr, the buckskin stallion who was carefully finding his footing as my father was on his back, every few minutes we had to stop to straighten my father as he kept slipping. His strength was gone and he was using what little he had left for it.

"Almost to our side," I spoke quietly, Liam turned back to me.

"I'll get you and Detering home, I promise." I let out a breath, however my skin crawled, I felt as though someone was watching our every move. I grabbed my rifle,

"LIAM GET DOWN!" I yelled, suddenly gunshots came from every direction, Liam and myself on our knees. Zephyr was laying down in the mud. I started shooting back as did Liam, however I stopped when I felt the barrel of a gun in the back of my head.

"On your feet, Frau." I glanced over to see one of Hitlers followers along with six other men with their weapons pointed at us. I gritted my teeth as I slowly stood up, a few of the men came behind me and searched me grabbing my rifle and bullets. I heard a small whimper of pain and whirled around to see them haul my father from Zephyrs back while the last one held the rein. I glanced back to see Liam who had his hands behind his back, his blonde hair ruffled with mud and dirt.

"Germany is dearly missing you," the follower spoke again as he walked around us and came back to me. "Especially you." I met his gaze.

"Did I miss the welcome party?" I replied humorlessly. The follower smirked at me and spoke again, moving closer.

"Ah yes, amusement is such a funny thing, Frau. However I would like to see that same amusement on your face when your dead." He moved closer to me, than he straightened and snapped his fingers and said something in German. I looked at Liam again, with a forlorn expression.

I was the cause of this, the cause of the war, the cause of the pain. Would the world no longer suffer when my blood was spilled and my life over? Was my fate only to live in a life that was only in dreams? Perhaps if I accepted my fate of death and stop fighting it would be over, maybe all of it, the engagement, my mother alive, the Royal family, Prince William, was a sweet dream to temporarily blind me from what was coming. Maybe William was already married to Leonor. I looked back up to see three more soldiers coming our way, however something rolled by my foot. I looked down to see a green/black ball of something than to my horror I knew what it was.

A active grenade, and by the looks of it I had seconds.

With newfound strength I managed to get my hands free from my captors grasp. Soon they saw what was by my foot and ran for cover, I quickly grabbed it and threw it before going over to my father to push him to the ground, "Liam get down, its a grenade!"

Within seconds the bomb when off, debris and mud covered everyone by it along with the men who flew into the air before hitting the ground. I looked up again, coughing. I moved closer to my father,

"Evelyn are you all right?" my father asked me, I nodded and looked around for Liam. I slowly got up from my place, bodies littered the ground and fire was licking the remains. I moved over to where I last saw Liam, he gotten up and was anxiously looking for me, relief was on his face when he saw me.

"I'm glad your okay, we need to move." I nodded

"They are going to be shelling us soon, I don't think the grenade was a loner." Liam replied, I started walking back to my father and Zephyr, however out of the corner of my eye I saw a lone soldier, who had his weapon pointed at me.

This was it, I had no escape. Time moved slowly, however I felt something move in front of me, I looked up to see Liam, he had a small smile on his face but it said it all.

"I'm sorry, Evelyn."

then I was pushed to the ground, I looked up to see Liam stiffen before he collapsed and blood was coming from his chest.

"LIAM....!"
