I was awake, my throat dry and sweat dripped down my face towards my neck, suddenly strong hands grabbed me.
"Evelyn! It's me, please calm down."
I nearly attempted to strike whoever grabbed me until I realized it was Liam.
"Evelyn-what?" Liam asked, although from the tone of his voice he sounded like he was in shock. I was trembling and than I buried my face into his chest.
"I hate this, all of this and I hate that I'm here. I don't want to say goodbye-." I sobbed into him, Liam pulled me closer. "Who Evelyn? Please talk to me." desperation was in his voice. I closed my eyes as I attempted to steady to my breathing, however I was still trembling. I pushed away from Liam slightly and I stared at him.
"How can you walk away from someone you love after you promised them. You would stay by their side until death?" for a moment Liam didn't speak but he found his words.
"You can't," he said quietly, at those words. I feel silent but I managed to speak again.
"But what if you have to say goodbye to that person who held your heart and he had to move on?"
"If you where willing to say goodbye, what would happen if he still loved you? Maybe that's what you thought but he didn't. You can't say truly say goodbye Evelyn. Unless you know that he doesn't care about you anymore."
Liam's words hit home, I didn't tell him about William and up until the nightmare I was living in. He was in the back of my head but now he was the only thing I could think of. My William, the man who held my heart and my fiancé. I was to be his wife, the Duchess but I wondered. Was that gone?
In this war I was no longer Hackathrift Pippa, head of the British Council and private adviser to His Highness, Prince Charles of Wales. I knew that but what would happen to me once the war was over.
No the war wouldn't be over, not until Adolf Hitler took over the United Kingdom with his Nazi Party but I knew he wanted me. Dead suddenly I heard Liam's voice bringing me back to reality.
"I'm sorry- I should've said that." he apologized, I shook my head and gave him a sad smile.
"I'm glad you did," I turned my head, nearby was Zephyr, who was quietly nosing the muddied ground. He was favoring his leg slightly.
"He's still sore but he'll be able to walk longer soon." Liam replied, getting to his feet. I followed suit and I walked over to the Stallion, I gently stroked his neck. Zephyr raised his head, seeing it was only me, he nudged my hand gently with his soft muzzle. I smiled to myself, remembering Calvino, my horse for he was a gift from Spain whilst I visited.
"Hey-you okay?" Liam asked from behind me. I bit my lip and blinked away the tears that threatened to fall, I turned around.
"I will be, let's move. The shelling will be coming."
