A dull pounding started spreading in my skull, I grimaced and rested the side of my head against my hand. Out of the corner of my eye, Liam shifted to look at me.

"Hey- you okay?" his quiet voice was hinted with concern for me.

"Oh don't worry about me, it's just pain. Probably from that rough fight with that last solider we encountered," I reassured him, Liam however still looked worried but he didn't return the reply.

It was nearly dusk and yet the sound of gunshots and grenades could still be heard. Germany wasn't giving but I knew why.

"What's it like to be with the British Royal family? Do you get pampered everyday with tea served on a silver tray every afternoon?" Liam asked, making me return to reality. At the last sentence, a thin smile made it's way across my lips.

"Afternoon tea? Not quite, though I had my own staff to help me. I never had the luxury to be pampered or relax."

"I suspect you never had the time," Liam replied through a smile, "But what was your title? Were you called, Princess Evelyn?"

"No, that time. I was Hackathrift Pippa, head of the Royal council. But before all that I was a nurse for the Red Cross, I wasn't always a part of the Royal family." the name on my lips felt almost foreign. I got to my knees and started to crawl to the edge on the trench, I licked my cracked lips, tasting dried blood. Not a soul could be found in No Mans Land, but the smoke made it hard to see.

Wait a minute.

I squinted to get a better look, there, tangled in barbed wire was a dark shape. For a moment it looked like a human being, but it was far bigger and taller than a man. I looked behind me.

"Liam, crawl over to me." I whispered, I turned back but heard Liam moving towards me until he joined me on the edge of the trench.

"Something looks like it lost it's way," Liam muttered, I got up from my knees and grabbed my rifle.

"I'm going to go check it out." I replied, Liam's head shot up.

"No! What if they shoot you too? You can't go out there alone Evelyn-" but I cut him off.

"Liam, I'll be fine, I would rather have you safe than hurt." I stepped down from the edge and slowly started to walk, I bent my back a little to not be in full view. As I walked closer, I made out a few noises which sounded like breathing of an animal. I moved closer hesitantly, than I stopped and kneeled down.

There tangled in the barbed wire, was a horse.
