Fears

Fears. We all have them. Everyone is afraid of something.

They may seem embarrassing to us, or uncommon, but it's natural to be afraid. It might be kind of healthy.

I like to look at it this way, fear keeps us alive. Keeps us alert. Ready to be attacked and ready to defend ourselves. It keeps us going, and going, and going.

It also fuels our imagination. Sometimes I like to think about conquering my worst fears and it gives me courage and determination. It gives me a feeling of success or accomplishment. Even though I know it's not easy or as simple to get over my fears, I like to imagine myself doing so. It's actually kind of fun for me.

Say you're afraid of spiders. All of those long, spindly legs, slowly crawling, softly, up your leg. And then *whack*. You hit the spider with your hand, or a shoe, and it's dead. Gone. It can't bother you anymore, and you feel empowered. Sometimes, getting over your fears is that simple. But not all the time.

Say you're afraid of going up in front of your class and presenting. You have stage fright, right? Sure you go up there, all of those knots in your stomach, you feel like you're going to puke and you're shaking. And afterwards, you're fine. It's over. The nervousness slowly goes away and you're back to normal.

Until next time.

And you go through it again. The shaking, the nervousness, the sick feeling in your gut. And you don't know how to stop it. You feel like you'll never get over it. But you hope, that you'll slowly get used to it. That one day, you can go up there confidently, not a care in the world. You hope that you can. But you don't know how to. You don't know how to get to that point; that point of confidence. It seems unreachable. You try all of the crazy things people tell you will work, but they never do. I'm not sure anyone really knows how to get over stage fright, one method that will work for everyone. You just have to find the one that works for you, or slowly get used to it.

And some people just find odd ways to not be afraid. Certain situations that they're fine with their fear.

Take me for example. I'm afraid of being judged. But that's why I go on Wattpad. Because here, I can speak of myself freely and state my opinions without worry, because I don't have to see the stares or judge-mental looks I think people would give me if I were speaking face to face. I feel comfortable here talking about myself and expressing my opinion. In person, however, I could never do such a thing. Nope. Too afraid of what people would say or think. But here, I feel different. I feel alright half the time with saying what I feel and how/who I am.

So whatever your fear(s) may be, just remember we're all afraid of something. You are not alone. And maybe we can help each other get over our fears, and it might bring us closer together than ever before.

Thank you for reading. I would like to know/hear some of your fears, so why not share with us and comment a few that you have. Don't worry, we don't judge here. We accept people for who they are, with open arms!! And again, thank you for reading. Have a lovely day!
