I could feel the heat getting stronger. It was bright, yet the middle of the night. I knew this was imminent for days now, but I didn't really take the time to process it. It's all about to end; but still, the only thing on my mind is time. Or lack thereof. I didn't have enough time. We didn't have enough time. It isn't fair, but really, what did I expect. I knew I shouldn't have gotten involved. I knew I would only get hurt. But for some reason, I don't regret it. I look to my right and see him staring up into the bright night sky, with a soft smile. Tears flooded his eyes, threatening to spill out and stain his face. My heart broke. At that moment I knew that soon, the world would go dark.

1 Week Earlier
~7 Days Left~
I woke up with a pit in my stomach. Do you know that feeling that you get where everything feels wrong and you know something bad is going to happen? Today doesn't feel right. I didn't want to get out of bed, but my company should be coming over soon. I glance to my left at the phone on my bedside table. As the screen lit up, I could see that it was nearly 11 am on a Sunday morning. I shoot a quick "I'm up" text to Kuroo and idly roll out of bed. I trudged towards the bathroom door and stepped in. I glanced at myself in the mirror for a few seconds before getting undressed. My dark hair was a little outgrown. It wasn't necessarily long, but I should probably make an appointment for a haircut soon. I turned on the water and waited for the temperature to be perfect. I showered and got dressed for the day. I pulled on a casual t-shirt and jeans. I tried to fix my hair a little bit, but after fussing for a minute or two, I gave up and made my way towards the kitchen. I usually eat a quick breakfast in the morning, but I know Kuroo will probably drag us somewhere for food. While waiting for my two friends to come over, I sat on the couch and pulled out my phone to scroll through social media.
Everything on Twitter seems to be about the same thing. There are random news stories flooding my timeline. I don't really like looking at the news when I'm trying to relax, so I close out of the app and text Kuroo. He responds almost immediately and says they'll be up to my apartment any second now. I grab a light jacket and my sneakers. As I finish slipping my last shoe on I hear a light tap on the door, followed by the door swinging open quickly. I hear two sets of footprints step through the door.
"Good morning, Akaashi!" The taller of the two says, rather loudly.
"It's past noon, but good morning, Kuroo," I say calmly, "Hello Kozume."
"Hello, Keiji. And I told you, just call me 'Kenma'." murmurs the shorter man. I met Kenma and Kuroo last year during my first year of college. Kenma and I had some classes together since we are the same age. Kuroo is in the year above us but he and Kenma grew up together so they already knew each other. Kuroo wrapped his arm around my shoulders and turns to walk out of the door, with Kenma trudging quietly behind us.
As we exit my apartment building, Kuroo slides his arm off of my shoulders and instead reaches back, grabbing Kenma's hand, pulling him forward beside him.
"Hey, where are we going? You never told me..." I said questioningly.
"Well, Kenma hasn't eaten anything yet, and I'm assuming you haven't either. So I figured we could go to the cafe first and figure out what we want to do today there." Kenma and I just glance at each other and nod, continuing our walk. We arrive at the station at almost 1 o'clock. From there, we take the train into the city. We get off the train to get on a second train that will take us deeper into the other side of the city. At roughly 3 o'clock, we arrived at the cafe. We step in and a low hum of quiet chatter floods through the door. We swiftly made our way towards a booth in the back of the shop.
The cafe isn't too crowded this morning. For the most part, it's peaceful. All that can be heard is the quiet chatter amongst the other patrons and a tv quietly playing some random program in the background. When we sit down, I grab a seat across from Kenma and Kuroo. Kenma slides into the booth first and takes the window seat. Kuroo slides in after him and immediately starts talking about whatever is on his mind. Kuroo typically has to be the one to hold the conversations, not that he's complaining. Kenma and I usually just quietly listen, only chiming in with short, steady comments or answering Kuroo's questions. In the middle of Kuroo talking about how his classes are going, he slides his hand into Kenma's. I slyly look away. I have no issue with them at all, I just feel like I'm intruding. I don't really have any other friends to spend time with. Kenma and I got paired together in a class one time and I just kind of stuck around since then. Neither of them seems to mind very much, but I still don't want to be a burden. We had ordered and were now just chatting away contently.
"You guys are being quieter than usual. You're not even pretending to pay attention." Kuroo exclaimed with a smirk. Kenma and I glance at each other briskly. "I know what's wrong with Kenma, he was just up all night streaming so he must be tired. But you went to bed and stopped replying to my texts at 8:30 last night, 'Kaashi. So what's your excuse?" Both of them were staring at me tensely, waiting for a response.
"Just had a drowsy start to my day. I'm fine, I promise, guys." I gave them a soft smile and they seemed to settle down. Kuroo went back to his usual chatter for the next 30 minutes about how chilly the weather has been getting and how Kenma needs to bundle up more than just in a hoodie and sweatpants, or he may catch a cold. The hum of people talking in the cafe faded faintly, and the tv in the corner was a little bit more audible.
"Breaking news," a woman's voice escapes the tv in a professional, yet worry-filled tone. "Hey! can someone turn up this tv?" a man sitting near the door asks. "Researchers at NASA have discovered an asteroid heading towards Earth at a rapid speed of 72 kilometers per and is about 94 miles wide. Officials at NASA say we have roughly 7 days till it hits Earth. Due to the size of the said asteroid, the collision will be catastrophic. It is advised that you should spend time with your loved ones within these last few days. And no matter what, please don't panic and stay calm."
The sound of the tv faded into the background as everyone stared in shock. Did I hear that correctly? Surely not, an asteroid hitting earth? Catastrophic? That meant deadly, right? No, I must have misheard. That makes no sense. It's impossible.
