What does she mean, I'm something? No, I can't be her mate. Yes, I feel a connection to her but I don't like her that way.

"Place your hand on his arm, is that ok with you?" Amaris asked glancing between us both. I gulped and nodded. Don't come across as disappointed, I chanted in my head as she put her hand on my arm... Nothing! I looked down and her hand was locked on my arm and I felt nothing, no sparks, no tingles. Goddess, Caleb doesn't breathe out in relief.

"Addi, do you feel anything?" Rhydian asked. She shook her head and glanced at me then at her parents. "Why did my wolf recognise him, didn't say what he was... She said he's of great importance to us." She shrugged. Amaris' eyes went wide, "He's your anchor." She blurted. "I'm a what?" I glanced at her, open-mouthed. "Addi, you're going to become a Dark Wolf." Amaris gushed.

"So, I'm not?" Dom's voice was broken. "I thought twins that we're Dark Wolves shared a connection with the same wolf." He shrugged. "Like you, dad and Uncle Alex." He mentioned quietly. "That's not always the case. We don't know for certain. We guessed because we did." Amaris replied. "Your clothes are still in perfect condition, Dom... I would say you're going to become one too." Rhydian added.

"But doesn't that mean there's another great evil?" I questioned. "Um, I don't know," Amaris answered. I was overwhelmed, confused and slightly heartbroken that I wasn't Dom's mate. "This is a lot to take in, I know." Amaris muttered, "But you will be of great help for Addi." She smiled, "I think that's what the Moon Goddess meant." Rhydian spoke up, slowly relieved. I hummed and nodded.

I sat and watched as they all fussed around them. I felt like I was interrupting a private party, they never made me feel unwelcome but I didn't know what it felt like to be a wolf so I couldn't offer any guidance. Addi kept grinning at me and Dom glanced at me now and again.

"You ok?" Amaris asked as she sat down next to me. I nodded and smiled. "I know what's wrong." She whispered. I turned my head to look at her, she was looking at the twins in awe. "You wanted Dom to be your mate, didn't you? And by his reaction, the feeling was reciprocated." She mused. I sighed and shrugged. "You will have a mate somewhere out there," She smiled at me. I nodded and gave her a small smile. "We are going to let our wolves meet, you can stay or go inside. It's up to you." She smiled.

"I'll stay." I nodded. She grinned and stood up. She bent over, a loud snap sounded in the air then she was fully in wolf form. I watched in awe as one by one they all shifted. Rhydian's wolf was stunning, he was grey with crimson patches. Now I understood the colours of Addi and Dom. Cory's wolf is smaller than Rhydian's but bigger than the twins. He has gorgeous dark brown fur.

Amaris's wolf sat in front of me and tilted its head. "It's still me." Amaris' voice reassured through the link. I chuckled awkwardly and nodded. She turned, ran and jumped between the other wolves. I watched silently as they all played with each other. A wet nose touched my left hand and I gasped, jumping back. The wolf whined and backed away.

I took a deep breath to calm my breathing. I looked in front of me, Addi and Dom's wolves were stood watching me. "Arabella and Damon," Amaris mentioned through the link. "Arabella and Damon," I repeated. Their ears pricked up before they came over to me. I held both hands out and let them come to me.

After I got comfortable playing around with their wolves everything seemed to calm down. My mind wasn't racing, I was happy. "Ok, you three. Party is in half an hour." She shouted from in the house. They both shifted back, and we made our way to the house. "Caleb, can I speak to you?" Dom asked. I nodded and stopped walking. Dom waited until Addi went inside before looking at me sadly.

"Listen, I know you're not my mate." He sighed. "I'm sorry for kissing you, it won't happen again." He took a deep breath and his eyes moved to the floor. I sighed, "Whoever your mate is, they'll be lucky to have you." I smiled. "For what it's worth, that was some first kiss." I chuckled. His eyes went wide, "That was your first kiss?" He asked. I nodded and could feel my cheeks reddening. "Mine too." He whispered. I raised my brow but quickly covered it up. "Nothing has to change, ok. We'll blame it on sob stories and hormones." I grinned.

He chuckled and nodded. "Well, come on birthday boy. It's time you got ready for your party." I smirked. He rolled his eyes and shoved my shoulder as we went back to the house. I'm hoping we can make our friendship work, I don't want to lose him as a friend.

I groaned and flopped down on my bed. I have never been to a party like that, the only birthday parties I ever had since I was 10 were little things with Ruby, Mason and Lily because Carson couldn't cope with any more than that. It was loud and hectic, with so many people. Addi had a whale of a time, parading me around, introducing me to everyone. I'm now known as Anchor Caleb. I don't think that's an actual title but she seems to think so.

I stayed for as long as I could until I became overwhelmed. There was a she-wolf called Lottie that took an interest in me, would not leave me alone. Everywhere I went, she was there. Some wolves doing take the mate bond seriously, it's clear I wasn't her mate.

Amaris is taking me to meet the rogue in the morning.
