"I'm sorry for what I did," Carson whispered. I took a deep breath and stared at the ceiling but kept hold of his hand. "I don't think I can forgive you," I whispered. I felt his hand shake and a sob escape him. "Cal, I'll be outside. I'll give you two some time to talk." He mentioned. I sat up and panic set in. "Don't leave me," I whined. "Baby, I'll be right outside." He sighed and came over to me. He gave me a short kiss and stroked my face with his thumb as he pulled back.

He walked out of the room and I sighed. "So, he's your mate?" Carson asked. I took a deep breath and pressed a button on the bed to raise it. The pain was there but wasn't as bad. Being near him was working. I nodded and glanced at him. He'd raised his bed and was staring at me. "You... You look good." He muttered. I scoffed and rolled my eyes, "I didn't look good." I snarled.

He winced and took a deep breath, "I have no excuse for what I did, I shouldn't have done it. One minute I was fine, I was shifting and the look in your eyes when you watched me shift, I felt amazing and proud by the way you were looking at me," He took another deep breath. "Then my body was filled with rage and hate, not exactly at you but at everything. I remembered everything and I shouldn't have taken it out on you." He sighed.

"Taken it out on me? Carson, you beat me! I had cuts and bruises all over my body and my ribs were broken!" I yelled. I could feel Dom's tension through the bond, he was holding himself back from coming in. "I... I didn't." He stuttered, shaking his head vigorously. "Yes you did, Lily helped me. She got me out and told me you did it." I snarled. He shook his head again,

It was mum... She told Lily I did it after she tried to make me reject her. I had to make it seem like I rejected her so mum would leave her alone, she threatened to kill her. I didn't know you had run away, Lily didn't tell me straight away. She told me when I found out she was pregnant, mum didn't have any choice after I mated and marked her, she had to let me be with Lily.

Mum told me you had told her and dad that you were leaving because you no longer wanted to be here and not to follow. I was angry that you left without saying anything, I understood why you did... I don't blame you for it, what I did... Breaking our bond, Caleb I had to. Mum threatened you, she said if I didn't break the bond... She would kill you. I couldn't let her do it. I had to let my wolf take over all the time, I was barely in control. He was too much of a rogue so it was easy to fool mum.

When I was taken by our Grandfather, he told me everything about what they had done before when she was living like a rogue. I was appalled and wanted nothing to do with her. She's always been planning on overthrowing the Dark Wolves. I wanted to come back and tell you, I wouldn't leave with him not without you. She caught me with him whilst he was bringing me back, she told him to leave and never come back. She had a witch with her, she put some spell on me... It stopped me talking. She said if I ever told you through our mindlink she would kill you while you slept. The spell lifted when I shifted.

Caleb, everything I did was to protect you. I know you might not think that and I know it hurt you, it hurt me too. Remember, you hurt, I hurt? After Oliver tracked you down, mum found out and told me you were dying. I nearly lost it, I wanted to go to you but she wouldn't let me. Then when I tried leaving, she killed... killed...

"I know," I whispered. He took a shaky breath, he was heaving and coughing from talking. "I knew what she was capable of, it was easy to go along with her. I was young, I didn't stand a chance against her. She told me dad knew everything about her. But he didn't." He added. I laid there and stared at the wall. "Once, I'm able to travel, I'll leave." He whimpered, "I understand even though I thought I was doing the best for you, I probably wasn't." He added.

"Why didn't you tell me any of this?" I whispered. "I met our Grandfather, he said you knew where I was and if I ever came back... you'd kill me," I added. He shook his head, "I haven't seen him since I was 10. Mum gradually took over the pack, I was the Alpha in the eyes of the pack but she ran things." He answered, "And I couldn't tell you... If I had told you, you would have confronted her. We weren't strong enough to stop her on our own, we couldn't get help back then." He whimpered.

I took a deep breath. This changes things... He didn't break the bond because he wanted to, he did it because he was protecting me. He spent his life miserable so I was able to live mine... Granted it wasn't the best life but we had each other and that was enough for me then. It may take me a while... I may never trust him again but I'm willing to try.

"You can stay if you want? We can try and repair our bond. I've missed this, I've missed us." I whispered and as soon as the words left my mouth, I felt a whole flood of emotions within me. My eyes went wide and I looked at Carson, he was looking at me shocked. "The bond-" I choked. "It's back." He breathed out in relief.
