"did you just aim that at my head?" mark hissed, his eyes screwed shut and his lips pulled tightly into a disapproving frown.

"never," jaemin sarcastically assured, the pattering of his footsteps echoing across the outdoor basketball court that was occupied by only the pair. "especially when you have such a pretty face."

the fading sound of the basketball bouncing into the distance encouraged mark to untuck his head from the protective shield that was his arms. "i'm not pretty," he whined childishly, slapping the taller on the back of the head. "in fact, i'm very handsome."

"and who had the audacity to make that ego of yours any bigger?" the younger questioned with a raised brow before brushing past mark to follow the retreating ball.

"my...mum."

excluding the consistent chirps of the joyous birds and the rustling of the summer breeze passing through the trees, a silence fell between them as jaemin retrieved the ball, his lips pursed to try and suppress a snicker at his friend's words.

"classic miss lee," he mumbled instead, holding the ball under his right arm while jogging back towards the older. "seeing no wrong in her 'little mark'."

"yeah, yeah," the canadian boy replied, dismissively waving his hand to shoo jaemin away. "you're only jealous."

"you wish."

mark leaned against the fence, slowly sinking to the ground to admire jaemin's perfect shots at the basket. he loosened his tie slightly with a small sigh, his eyes glimmering with adoration for the clueless other.

"nervous for friday?" he called out after a minute of silence.

jaemin glanced at him through the corner of his eye before jumping to throw the basketball up in the air again. a satisfied smile became prominent on the younger's face as he scored. "i guess," he mumbled, poking the inside of his cheek with his tongue in thought. he grasped onto the ball as it returned to him. "i mean i've been feeling the pressure to win. coach says that he's relying on me."

"it's what happens when you're the captain, jaem," mark quietly replied, his hands tugging gently at his raven locks, which at this stage were drenched with sweat thanks to the merciless sun. "but you'll do fine. you never cease to amaze me."

jaemin only blushed at the compliment. "if i wasn't any wiser, i would think you have a big crush on me," he joked, sticking his tongue out at the flustered older before redirecting his gaze back to the hoop.

in nothing more than a hushed whisper, the spectator replied. "and you wouldn't be wrong."
