"soulmates."

mark sighed tiredly at the topic, having sat through one discussion too many about it.

"we all have soulmates," the teacher continued, looking at the class with a slight frown before readjusting her glasses. "but as you all know, we all connect to our soulmates in different ways."

just as mark's eyes grew heavy with boredom, a ball of paper collided with the back of his head with a soft 'thud'.

with sudden enthusiasm, he plucked the scrunched page from the floor and ironed out the crinkles with his hand before reading the scrawled words that decorated the sheet.

"anyone want to share what their soulmate link is?"the teacher asked with an interested gaze.

"i haven't met my soulmate yet," a girl called out from somewhere behind the disengaged student. "but i have a timer here, counting down to when i'll meet them." she pointed to her wrist, holding it up for everyone to see.

"oh!" another student exclaimed, his eyes lighting up with adoration for the subject. "i have a telepathic link with mine." the excited teen looked around the room with a dorky smile.

jaemin merely watched mark as he read the note with narrowed eyes, the loudness of the classroom seemingly gone as if it were only the two of them in their immensely boring history class.

'our favourite topic ☺︎︎'

mark smiled at this, turning around to face the younger who eagerly watched. with an eye roll, the older flipped the creased page around, jotting down a small reply.

'nothing's more sexy than a mystery'

"mark!" jaemin groaned childishly, his fingernails tapping against the table with no discernible rhythm. "i'm not telling you my link until you tell me yours."

the older shrugged in response, his brow cocked while a victorious smirk graced his features.

"eww, look at that kid. why does his eye look like that?"

"i think it's a deformity."

"he's so weird looking."

"is it a monster?"

"it's nothing fascinating," he assured, turning around to face jaemin once again, noticing how he was pouting immaturely. "just another fact of life."

mark just couldn't handle the thought of jaemin being disappointed in him. he simply wasn't able to show him his soulmate link...his purple eye.
