The game was long. The cue ball going back and forth across the table. Amanda wouldn't talk after she knew my name. And to tell the truth I never really wanted to talk either. I walk towards the game to watch closely while Amanda still eyes me. But follows me as if she's on a mission to always have eyes on me. And when she knows my first and last name I don't think the mission thing was a joke.
"You married?" Ronan asks Asher. Asher looks up at him before he shoot the cue ball. Does he really look like he's at that age yet? The poor man hasn't lived yet. And if he is than his life is confusing. "Yeah. To the constitution of the United States of America." Asher says playfully. I learned that Ronan was a cop in LA. So, Asher going easy on him and not choking him every time he gets a shot is surprising. Asher makes the shot and is in the lead by one. But the games not over yet. So Ronan has the time to catch up.
Ronan carefully aims at the striped blue ball numbered 11. Before Amanda was excited for Ronan to win. Every time he makes a shot she cheers. Buy now when he makes his shirt she frowns. And when Asher succeeds she seems to have a rush do adrenalin. I'm not going to lie. I want to go home and the only way I can do that in one piece if for Asher to win. And after this is over I will slap him...
For treating me like a prize or some kind of trophy. I'm human. Not an object I hope he notices.
"Impressive." Asher says as Ronan makes a shot, " you know what the say, Rome was not built in a single day." Asher aims the last ball... The eighth ball. If he makes it in he wins. If not Ronan has the chance to win and I'm certain he will take it and win. Asher hits the cue ball and I watch it fall into the basket the white ball staying at the edge of the basket threatening to fall. Slowly Asher gets up afraid to move the table. "But it burnt in one." Asher says putting the cue down. I watch as Amanda lets out a breath she's was holding. And I too, couldn't help myself from smiling.
He walks in front of me and I follow him catching up to him. "I hate you." I mumble to Asher. "I won. So you can't hate me."
"You treated me like some kind of prize-"
"No. He treated you as a prize I just saved your ass from going human to trophy." He argues.
"Still." Let me present to you... The best way for winning an argument, sorta.
"Come on I want to show you something." He says leading me outside. I hesitate before I follow him looking back at the pool game. Amanda talking to Ronan about something. But Ronan doesn't seem to listen instead we meet eye contact. I quickly turn around finding Asher looking at me with confusion. I stay a distance from Asher as we seem to be walking to his car.
Do I seem to trust Asher? He knows I'm a water, what if he's taking me to some execution. He smart that way. And I'm being stupid following him around. Asher turns on the car opening the door for me to get in. I wait for him to close it and walk to the other side.
No one speaks as he turns on the car. "Where you taking me?" I ask.
"Somewhere." Is his reply still not looking at me. So I turn my head so I don't have to fade him instead facing the rode. "Are you planning on killing me?" The question kills my mind.
"If I was going to do that I would choose a better place to do it. Possibly make it look like nature did itself."
"So your killing me." I clarify. My hands reach for the door waiting for him to say yes. If so I would jump out. Possibly kill myself by the hard landing. Or, break something in my body.
"No. I would have already done it." He says quietly. I am silent. Suddenly afraid to speak. The car stops and I find myself looking at a broken bridge, abandoned. Behind it is a forrest. The perfect place to kill someone Asher. He takes a deep breath. "You and Ronan know each other." He says. It's not a question it's a fact.
"No. Why?"
"I'm not asking Skylar. He knows you. He's either a stalker or someone in your past." He used my full name. That's all I heard in the sentence. Nothing else. It's not sky anymore. At least not now. "No I don't know him."
"He called you Sky. No one calls you sky but me. You know him. He knows your full name. Explain that to me." Asher adds. "He even told me what you liked. Hated. How to tell if your lying. Telling the truth. If your actually laughing. Or faking it. What your favorite books are. This guy went complete stalker mode, or he knows you."
"I don't know a Ronan. I never met him." I look at him in the eyes. Finally facing Asher. His eyes sparkle with gold. His jaws clenched. He searched my face trying to find something. And I do the same, but there's no emotion. He faces the window as he speaks again:
"Today is January 4th. Technically where second year. But the first year hasn't come yet so that's why we had the ordinary week." I know what date it is. "On January 4th all the planets align. And gravity, becomes less, so they say. I'm not sure, yet. Usually when the planted align there visible for Elements without a telescope. It's also the day when elements strengthen." He smirks. "You like stargazing. So I'm taking you stargazing sky, not murdering you."
Asher says getting out of the car swiftly. He leaves me there stunned on how quickly that went.
"Mrs. Pierre you can't see the stars in there." He says opening my door.
"Don't use Mrs. Pierre." I say looking at him. Then I seem to smile as I close the door behind me sitting at the edge of the bridge where the other part broke off.
"Someone took my other name. So your stuck with it."
"I'll give you sky. But don't use Mrs.Pierre." The name makes me seem old. He should be glad I'm giving him the privilege of shortening my name. Be glad your not dead. But then again I'm not a threat to him. He's a threat to me.
"Whatever you say Mrs. Pierre." Asher says.
I roll my eyes. My head looks up. My mouth drops. So many stars. Many many stars. All of them small and shinny twinkling with there own personality. Some are moving. Others sit near the bright moon. And the rest for. Shapes that I could imagine and make out. It's like cloud watching except in the night. And without clouds.
"Do you like stargazing?" I ask. "I mean since your all caught up in this no gravity day." I say with a small chuckle.
"No. Not really." He says sitting next to me. "I like the Sky. Always full of surprises. Beauty. Intelligence. Sometimes, I always catch it smiling. Laughing. And it's stars, laugh as well. With beauty that fills the world." I feel his eyes on me. But I don't look back at him, it would be awkward. "Ice cream?"
And that's when my head turns to look at him. He holds two ice creams of Häägen-Daz. A smirk climbs up my face. "Yes." I say with astonishment. I grab the ice cream opening it and taking a bite. It comes to realize here in LA there is no winter. Well not like the winter I have been through. Blizzards every minuet. Shoveling. More shoveling. Oh, and don't forget shoveling. It drove me insane. Mad and possible crazy. Those are all mean the same...
It's warm. Like spring warm. Maybe 60 degrees. I like it here. No shoveling...
No leaves falling, so no raking.
But bees... So lots of screaming, for me at least.
Though, right now I seem to be calm. Eating ice cream and swinging me feet back and forth as I look up at the sky. Asher's words fill my mind. I like the Sky. Always full of surprises. Beauty. Intelligence. Sometimes, I always catch it smiling. Laughing. And it's stars, laugh as well. With beauty that fills the world.
