CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO:
NO DO-OVERS

VICTORIA SAT IN THE PASSENGERS seat of her husbands car, Tony having one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding Victoria's hand as they drove to the Avengers facility. Emerson hadn't wanted them to leave, but Victoria promised her daughter she would be back as soon as she could. But she had to see it for herself, find out if this was actually going to work. If they went back, Victoria had already told Tony that she wasn't going to go, for precautions. They pulled up at the facility with Tony driving right past Steve before backing up and rolling down his window.

"Why the long face?" Tony asked, looking at Steve. "Let me guess. He turned into a baby."

"Among other things, yeah. What're you two doing here" Steve questioned. Victoria and Tony got out of the car and walk to the back of the car with Tony ignoring Steve's question.

"That's the EPR paradox. Instead of pushing Lang through time, you might've wound up pushing time through Lang. It's tricky. Dangerous. Somebody shoulda cautioned you against it." Tony tells him.

"You did." Steve told the man, looking at him.

"Oh, did I?" Tony asked whilst Victoria just rolled her eyes. "Thank god I'm here. Regardless, I fixed it." He held up a device, the same prototype he had made the other night whilst Victoria had been reading.

"A fully functioning Time-Space GPS. I just want peace." Tony holds up a peace sign before continuing. "Turns out, resentment is corrosive, and I hate it."

"Me too." Steve nodded.

"We got a shot at getting these stones, but I gotta tell you my priorities: Bring back what we lost? I hope, yes. Keep what I got? I have to, at all costs." He glanced towards Victoria who pushed a small smile onto her face. "And. . . maybe not die trying will be nice."

"Sounds like a deal." Tony and Steve shake on it before Tony turns to the trunk of his car and starts to dig something out. He pulls out Steve's Captain America shield and hands it to Steve who just looks at it.

"Tony. . ." Steve starts.

"Why? He made it for you." Tony said, referring to his father. "Plus, honestly I have to get it out of the house before Emerson takes it sledding." Victoria let out a small laugh at this before nodding her head in agreement. Steve accepts the shield and places it on his arm.

"Thank you, Tony." Steve spoke as he looked back at Tony, meeting his eyes.

"Will you keep that a little quiet? Didn't bring one for the whole team." Tony hesitates before saying, "We are getting the whole team, yeah?"

"We're working on that now." Steve nods.

"God, I haven't been back here in what feels like forever." Victoria breathed before stepping forward and giving her best friend a quick hug. "I'll be inside."
